First Steps





I've been on my feet for a few minutes or so
And I really have the urge to get up and go
But moving both front paws out at once just isn't the way
And I don't have the patience to wait for another day

With my front right paw and my back left leg I start to move like a tank
Clumsily and slow as though I am walking a plank
Though I am getting closer to it is that I want to see

I doubt that there's much of a chance that it will flee
It's not so hard now, as I teach my paws and legs to control my speed
Lest my legs give out and the floor decides to suddenly intercede
There's so much to learn on my attempt to walk from here to there

To keep my head up, should something change that I am not aware
While paying attention to the texture of that upon which I tread
That changes constantly and could cause embarrassment and dread
On my journey for a place to make a comfortable and impromptu bed
