And why should I have to trust to some tweakware? Why shouldn't I expect that the OS actually works like it claims it should right out of the box???
That's bare minimum. In contrast, OS X runs okay (not screaming, but reasonably usable for basic stuff) on a first-gen Intel Mac mini with a Core Solo, integrated graphics and 512 MB RAM. All of the Aqua* bells and whistles are available in this configuration.
For you winmaniacs, that's what Microsoft is trying to copy with Aero. :)
Cool... and actually very useful when doing research when combined with Smart folders. Set a folder with the color of the label being the search criteria. Mark files you may have already and save new ones with that color. Regardless of where they are or where you download them, they will be in your Smart Folder for that topic.
The other BIG thing where I remember Apple being behind with the times is in CD-RW. They were the first to push DVD-R standard in their higher machines, but they refused to put in CD-RW until a long time after it was practically standard in every PC.
Careful. Some around here might start calling you a criminal for doing that.
Yes. Pattern:
Um...
OS X 10.4 runs acceptably well on my old G4/*400*mHz tower with 640mb of RAM. Some of the translucency stuff in Aqua doesn't work, but that's because the video card doesn't support it. Everything else works fine. I've since upgraded to a 1.5Ghz Mac mini, because it was stupidly cheap and had a much better video processor.
XP barely even runs on a comparable PC, let alone Vista.
It works fine, out of the box... but, it works better with some tuning... so does a Ford Mustang after you modify it a little bit. ;)
This was a fact, and was all that I posted. However I have better things to do today than listen to your excuses.
I ripped some DVD's to my hard drive with Vista... does that help your situation? I ripped Superman Returns, Fantastic4, Cars and some others... Enjoy.. slysoft.com is your friend. ;)
you said
Careful. Some around here might start calling you a criminal for doing that.
Ahhh, I ripped the DVD's that I own... I don't care what they say...
The difference (in handling and driving) between a Ford Mustang Cobra (with the IRS, which I am helping a friend build up for fun) and a Jaguar XKR is about 30K worth of labor, suspension tuning, parts replacement, subframe connector installation, and more.
When you're done, you have a car that handles and rides as well as an XKR, but it's cost almost as much and you've spent a whole lot of time on it - and it's still a Mustang with that low-rent interior and all the squeaks and rattles.
I bought an XKR so I wouldn't have to do anything to it but turn the key and go. Same reason I use a Mac - it just works and I don't have to mess with it. And a lot of people are coming around to that view.
Actually, it wasn't, and it was a personal attack unrelated to this thread.
I was in Best Buy today. The shelves seemed a little bare. They had just five CPUs in stock, the Vista stuff is imminent. :')
ping for later
antiRepublicans should feel out of place around here, but I don't know who would be calling him a criminal for making a backup of his own media. You must still be trying to justify the illegal downloads you've admitted to making, which of course isn't the same as making a backup of one's own media.
I also wonder if your only recent exposure to Apple's OSX is a cracked version running on a standard PC as well, since you've been defending the Russian hackers that cracked it for months, even claiming Russian hackers worked for the US DoD, something you eventually admitted you simply made up out of the blue.
So yes, illegal activity and outright lies such as that which you defend and admit to doing yourself will be rightfully criticized, but admitting to simply making a backup of one's own media is not criminally punishable that I am aware of, it's not he's defending those that hacked OSX and put it out on the internet for others to use like you are on record doing. Big difference, whether you realize it or not.
Those are the requirements, but of course they are about as realistic as Windows XP's from a few years back or even Windows 3.1's when it came out. My best recollection is that the software would run, barely, but try to run a program and it would be swapping time.
But let's play along and pretend they are realistic. Things still don't look great for upgraders.
Every Mac made in the last three or more years will run MacOS X Panther just fine.
I don't have any hard statistics, but I'd be shocked if more than 20% of computers sold last year would qualify under the Premium Ready specifications, even if I was generous and excluded the RAM requirement. Taking a typical $500 PC and spending $200 for a Vista upgrade, $99 for a new graphics card and $40 to double the RAM seems like an awfully tough sell.
The Apple commercial showing PC going into surgery to get ready for Vista was pretty realistic, all things considered.
D
I haven't found those commercials of much value to date, but that one does sound pretty hilarious, I look forward to seeing it. Statistics however show that only a very small minority of PC owners ever actually upgrade their current version of Windows to a new one, I've seen stats showing only 2-3% of all Windows sales were shrink wrapped upgrades, so while the commercial does sound terribly funny it may be slightly off the mark. Like a good bit of the country my house will be tuned into football this afternoon and evening, hopefully it will make an appearance at some point, thanks for mentioning it.
You. You came down on me for exercising fair use, including ripping DVDs. That's backing them up, which requires the circumvention of CSS, which is against the DMCA.
it's not he's defending those that hacked OSX and put it out on the internet for others to use like you are on record doing.
They didn't even do that like you are falsely claiming.
Whoa, wait. I never claimed that one either. You are really starting this thread trolling with a lot of lies.
