WWE.com has learned that former WWE Superstar Scott "Bam Bam" Bigelow has passed away in Florida.
Kevin Doll, the Public Information Director for the Pasco County Sheriff's Office confirmed that Bigelow was found dead early this morning in his home in Hudson, Fla.
"We can confirm that Scott Bigelow was found in his home this morning. At this time the cause of death is unknown," Doll told WWE.com.
Doll also confirmed that the Pasco-Pinellas Counties medical examiner has taken the body and an autopsy will be performed.
Bigelow, 45, worked for WWE, ECW and WCW extensively throughout his 20-year sports-entertainment career. A former ECW Champion, ECW Television Champion and WCW Tag Team Champion, he is perhaps best known for his rivalry with Lawrence Taylor that culminated in the main event of WrestleMania XI in 1995.
Stay tuned to WWE.com as more on Bigelow's passing becomes available.
Another one gone too soon. Rest in Peace Bam Bam. Thanks for the memories.
Sad news in Wrestling Ping
Anoth wrestler passes in their early to mid 40's. No wonder Trish and Lita retired.
Prayers for Scotty. He was from Neptune NJ and hung out in Asbury Park. I knew him when he was a bouncer. Very sad to hear this news. ~~Pandora~~
I hear you. How tragic. Prayers for his family.
From the article:
Sources close to Bigelow have informed us that the former WWE/ECW/WCW superstar had been missing for several days, and was found dead this morning in a home in Pasco County, Florida.
We are told that Police are currently treating this as a crime scene. Despite several attempts by Kocosports.com to contact them, The Pasco County Sheriffs dept. was unavailable for comment as of 12:50PM today.
Aw man. I remember Bam Bam back in the WWF (when it was the WWF) in the golden days of the 1980s. Those were the days, I tell ya, when me and my buddies used to stay up watching "Saturday Night's Main Event" and he was wrestling on there.
(As always, if you'd like ON or OFF my wrasslin' ping list, let me know)
I was hoping this would be an erroneous death report like what happened to Corp. Kershner last year. It appears no such luck.
He had a bad motorcycle accident a few years back
Thanks for the ping
He also fought in mixed martial arts after he left wrestling. I don't know with who, but he was not successful. He was a riot on WWF.
I heard the news a short while ago. A shame. Fine performer. Never really got an extended good run, though he did get to headline a Wrestlemania.
Years ago, in between his runs in the american promotions, I was walking down LaGuardia near W Houston street in nyc and out of the corner of my eye saw Bam Bam's tattooed head! I caught up with him and said "Bam Bam?"
He looked over (actually he looked down, I'm about 5'7-8"). He smiled and said "Hey, man." I extended my hand and said I was a fan and he shook it. We chatted for about 3 minutes, walking together down LaGuardia. Nice fella. I said so long and wished him good luck and ducked into my Citibank, which was my original destination.
He shall be missed.
PS - The WWE has royally stunk for several years now. Ugh!
Rest in Peace Bam Bam
Vince has forgotten that second "W" stands for wrestling. He'd rather make it a peep show or try to appeal to the MTV demographic/mentality. He's taken a giant one on wrestling's core audience. It's brutal to watch these days.
Add me please
I haven't watched in a long time. :(
I live near the Neptune/Asbury Park area. I can't say that I knew Bam Bam, but I have run into him on a few occasions, and had the opportunity to speak with him. A nice man, very accommodating to the fans. My prayers are with him and his family this evening.
