The Moto Tribe: (green buffs) - Alex, Boo, Cassandra, Dre, Edgardo, Gary, Liliana, Lisi and Stacy.

The Ravu Tribe: (orange buffs) - Anthony, Earl, James, Michelle, Mookie, Rita, Sylvia and Yau-Man.

The Losers: Jessica, Erica

Misery Continues at Ravu

Erica Stunned at Tribal Council

Seen as one of the strongest and fiercest women in her tribe, Erica Durousseau, the 27-year-old fundraiser from Lake Charles, Louisiana, didn't see it coming when her Tribe turned on her. When Erica's constant panicking distracted her tribe at the Immunity Challenge, the target of the lethal vote swiftly shifted from the Sylvia to Erica, sending the latter home. Erica leaves in disbelief with a warning for her tribe. "I was very, very shocked by the vote tonight. I want you to think about voting me off, and think about who you kept, and if you go home empty handed, maybe you should think about the decision that you made."

Starving
Just before dawn, the depleted and desperate Ravu tribe discovers water in the form of morning dew on the leaves of trees surrounding their camp. "We need to survive," explains Earl as he and his tribemates slurp the small drops of water from the leaves. "It's hard to even think when you're dying of starvation and thirst. We're all just dehydrated. It makes you delirious." As the sluggish tribe attempts to nourish themselves with the fallen coconuts near by, Rocky laughs at the state of his group. "We're walking around into the walls and the trees!" exclaims Rocky as a faint Michelle collapses into a heap of bushes. "Half of us can't even stand up for more than an hour and a half I'm telling you. It's crazy! We're staving here, bro!"

Boo's Boo Boo
At Moto, food is bountiful as the tribe enjoys salted rice, crabs and fruit gathered from the island. "We are very fortunate to be living the way we are living," declares an excited Lisi. "We are all more than happy. This game is so vicious it's delicious." But as the lazy tribe lounges on their hammocks and cushions, Boo's clumsiness becomes carelessness. Having already jabbed his eye on a sign, Boo works on splitting firewood with a dull axe. Suddenly, Boo drops to the floor of the shelter, blood gushing from his hand and knee. "Boo's a real hazard to himself," chuckles Dreamz. "I could see it happening. Boo will hurt himself out of the game." Adding insult to injury, Boo attempts to take a break in one of the tribe's hammocks, but is sent crashing to the ground when the nail securing the hammock breaks from its post. "Had to happen to me," mutters Boo.

Yau-Man Detective

After a short stay on Exile Island, Sylvia arrives for the first time at her new camp. Mustering up what little energy they have, the Ravu tribe members greet Sylvia with a warm welcome as she reaches the shore. As the tribe peppers Sylvia with questions about the mysterious Exile Island, Yau-Man has his own agenda. "When Sylvia came back from Exile Island, I have only one thing in mind… When I'm hugging her I'm going to feel her up and see if the idol is there."

Later, struggling to assimilate with her new tribe, Sylvia laments "I feel like at this point I'm a little extraneous," murmurs Sylvia. "I missed a whole day with them, I'm not part of the core right now." Michelle, feeling irritable over Sylvia's presence, laments, "I was not really excited for Sylvia to come back. I already didn't have great feelings about her personality. I personally think she's bossy and just likes to push people around."

Day Dreamz
Foraging through the trees at Moto, Dreamz scurries with ease to the highest branches of a mango tree, collecting food for his tribe. "Being on SURVIVOR is pretty much a little easier than being homeless," states Dreamz. Dreamz continues to tell his story of childhood hardship and compares his suffering to that of his fellow castaways, adding "I know my tribemates don't know what it's like to suffer." Sitting down with his tribe for a pleasant dinner, Dreamz jokes that the Moto tribe is quite possibly eating better here on SURVIVOR than some people are back home. "I'm in an amazing spot in my life right now," rejoices Dreamz with determination. "I'm gonna help my family when I get back."

A Pineapple Miracle

Determined to survive, Earl, Erica and Rocky canvass their island in hopes of finding anything to sustain and nourish their tribe. "I am beyond starving," utters an exhausted Earl. "I'm looking for anything. Any tree-of-life. Anything." Frustrated and returning to camp empty-handed, Erica wanders into the bushes near camp and stumbles across a patch of succulent red pineapples. Screaming for her tribemates, she and Ravu rejoices at the sight of their salvation. "We've been running round hungry and stupid for the past two days," laughs James to Mookie. "Pineapple power for the challenge tomorrow." Earl, like a kid on Christmas celebrates, "Me and Erica, we're getting married. She just saved my life, and I appreciate that. That's a good woman."

Reward/Immunity Challenge: Supply Ships

The tribes reconvene at the challenge where Jeff Probst explains the rules. Each tribe will paddle in a canoe, out and around a tribe flag and back. On the way back they will collect four supply crates. As the tribes paddle their canoes over each crate, one tribe member will clip the crates onto a length of rope spooled in the center of the boat. Once back, tribes will pull the crates to shore carrying them onto tribe mats. With all four crates on the tribe mat, the tribes will untie and open the crates to find puzzle poles. The first tribe to solve their puzzle pole and raise their tribe flag wins Immunity. In addition, the winning tribe will win fishing supplies and will select a member of the losing tribe to go to Exile Island, saving them from Tribal Council.

The challenge begins as both tribes paddle vigorously through the water around their flags, heading for the row of floating crates. Ravu easily maneuvers their boat directly over their crates. As Michelle quickly attaches each crate to Ravu's rope, Stacy from Moto fumbles with her rope tangled in their boat. Once back on shore Ravu begins untying their crates, but Moto soon arrives on shore to close the gap. The Tribes are neck and neck as they begin solving the puzzle pole. Working together, Moto gets closer to solving their puzzle, while Ravu's Erica panics her tribe incessantly by claiming that she has the correct piece. Erica is incorrect and the distraction costs her tribe the lead. Meanwhile, Moto places the last piece of the pole together, raising there flag triumphant, and sending Ravu to Tribal Council. Without hesitation, Moto grants Earl Immunity from Ravu's Tribal Council, banishing him to Exile Island.

Exile Snakes

Upon arrival at Exile Island, a composed Earl carefully studies the two clues to the whereabouts of the coveted Hidden Immunity Idol. Realizing the idol is back at his camp, Earl takes comfort in knowing which way his tribe will vote that night. "When I found out that the idol was back at camp, it was very shocking. It doesn't really matter that Sylvia has that first clue, because as of tonight she most likely will be gone." Hunkering down for the night, Earl's peace is short lived when a deadly sea snake invades Earl's small camp. Nervously, Earl takes careful aim with the dull machete. Chopping the snake in half in two deadly blows, Earl shakes off jitters from the kill. "Can't take that chance, that same one. I really don't like killing animals. Snakes are misunderstood. We have an understanding now."

Keep Your Head

Furious at yet another loss, Mookie and Rocky reveal to Sylvia and Rita a new direction for the vote at Tribal Council. Still feeling like an outsider, Sylvia eagerly listens to Mookie's new plan to vote out Erica due to her lack of composure. Mookie squarely places the blame on Erica for the tribe's second loss. Elated by the change of events, Sylvia takes a breath. "I thought my days were numbered here… Mookie said, 'We're gonna vote Erica off,' and I said, 'Whoa.'" Quickly, news spread to Anthony of the change in plans. Taken aback and completely against voting out Erica, Anthony stealthily maneuvers between tribemates he feels he can trust in an effort to save Erica. "Erica lost her top. She completely blew her stack at the challenge today, and because she panicked, everybody saw it and those who didn't trust her a lot, now just want her gone," grumbles Anthony. "I'm playing the game, so is everyone else, you just have play the game with what you're dealt. And right now I got a really funky hand."

In the end, Anthony's efforts weren't enough to save the passionate Erica. To form a more cohesive tribe, Ravu cast their votes against Erica, making her the second person voted out of SURVIVOR: FIJI.

Take care,

Good morning..Happy Presidents' Day!!!

FYI..Sunday's NY Post TV section has an interview with Jefff Probst..I think it's on their website..maybe someone can post a link..but the one interesting thing is that he says there is nothing in the rules that prohibits the "haves" from sharing with the "have nots". IOW, they could have given them fire, or food..I didn't know that was legal, let alone kosher...did anyone else think that was allowed? Here's the money quote from Jeff..

"It's a game. Your don't see the Colts giving the Bears the ball with three minutes left and saying 'Here, try again.' "

Build fire?

It is easy to build a fire with flint and steel. When the first Survivor came on I took my little girls out in the back yard and they learned to do it. No problem.

Using a lens would be next in line but requires strong sun, a steady hand and good tender. Most glasses and improvised lenses will not do it.

The friction methods are not so easy. Bow and string would be the easiest to master but for all the methods getting the hot coal and transferring it to the tender is the hard part. Takes a lot of practice.

The keys to all of them is to have something dry and fine to catch the spark/coal and slowly transfer up through the tenders to the wood. Practice, Practice, Practice.

Burning hair stinks.

Dried, shredded coconut husks work well. Notice just about every survivor episode shows them in use.

The trick is that the back side of the metal match is magnesium. Use the knife to scrape a few flakes onto a leaf, pile some thinly pulled husks over that, get the striker side of the metal match close to the leaf and push down on the knife directing the sparks into the pile of magnesium. Poof, you've got fire.

Mostly on the show you see people wildly whacking away with sparks flying everywhere. Long time to get fires going.

Tune in tonight at 8pm et/pt

The MOTO tribe (green buffs): Alex, Boo, Cassandra, Dre, Edgardo, Gary, Liliana, Lisi and Stacy.

The RAVU tribe (orange buffs): Anthony, Earl, James, Michelle, Mookie, Rita, Sylvia and Yau-Man.

The Losers: Jessica, Erica

Good Morning Ladies and Gentlemen! It’s Thursday, so that must mean it’s time for your:

SURVIVOR PING ! ! !

The title of tonight’s episode is ”This Isn't Survival... It's Thrival“

The clues from the SeeBS website are as follows:

After a fall during the Reward Challenge, one Survivor struggles to catch their breath, causing an emergency visit from the medical team. Can they overcome this unfortunate situation or will they be forced to leave the game? Spoiler site rumors have it that Gary (Papa Smurf) is the one who has a hard time catching his breath. And even though there is a vidcap of someone on the Moto tribe commenting that “He said he doesn’t want to die here in Fiji…..” I think that Moto will manage to convince him to stick it out for a little while longer. Also, next weeks TV guide comments about “One Survivor’s failing health, continuing to be a problem.

On Exile Island, one Survivor realizes the importance of finding the hidden Immunity Idol if they want to stay in the game. Will they be able to dig up the Idol without their other tribemates finding out? During the promos we see Sylvia making a comment about thinking she knows where the Hidden Immunity Idol (HII) is buried. She wouldn’t be able to make that comment unless she was sent back to Exile Island to get another clue. So, Sylvia is this week’s Exile Island visitor.

In the Immunity Challenge, the Survivors are forced to eat foods off the Fijian menu, including fish eyes and pig snouts with hair still on them. You would think that for Ravu being starving and dehydrated, they would manage to win for a change. But even starving folk have a hard time stomaching fish eyes and pig snouts with hair still on them. Moto wins yet again.

One extremely dehydrated Survivor makes a desperate attempt to start fire with their eyeglasses. Will they get a flame or just burn out tired and frustrated? Jeff Probst commented during one of his pre show interviews that Michelle manages to accomplish something we haven’t seen since Survivor Africa. And that would be, start a fire with a lens and not a flint.

The Reward Challenge involves the players sliding down a giant “slip-n-slide” while trying to grab onto numbered balls hanging overhead. We also see promos of Moto returning to camp, all smiles and hauling the spoils with them. So Moto wins the Reward Challenge.

The Immunity Challenge is a return to the old tried and true “Gross Food Challenge”. I’ve already given my reasons for Moto winning, so the only thing left to decide is who is tonight’s bootee. I think that with Earl returning from Exile Island only to find that Erica was booted instead of Sylvia, he goes on a one man crusade to convince the rest of Ravu that Sylvia should be booted. The only question remaining is, will Earl find the HII while Sylvia is at Exile Island? If not, will Sylvia have enough time to locate the HII between Ravu loosing the Immunity Challenge and having to leave camp for Tribal Council? Needless to say, Sylvia gets the boot tonight, and doesn’t have the HII to save her.

So there you have it:

Cuz’s Weekly Picks!

Reward Challenge Winner: Moto
Sent to Exile Island: Sylvia
Immunity Challenge Winner: Moto
Second Player booted from the game: Sylvia

As usual, I’ll be back bright and early Monday morning with my recap.
So till then,

Take Care,

FReepmail me if you want added to (or removed from) the Survivor Ping List.

Question for the group. I can't believe that Ravu isn't being given water for over a week. It's dangerous not to do so. Dehydration can cause severe damage to organ systems. It would put the show at too much liability.

It's like running a race without drinking. The body literally shuts down from overheating..the muscles lock up. Do the math..an adult, in a hot climate, doing physical exertion, probably requires at a MINIMUM 2qts of water a per, if not more. No way can they get that much from coconuts or licking leaves.. Maybe they are drinking their own urine? FYI...it's quite safe to do so, though un pleasant tasting. It's a basic survival technique.

I can't believe that Ravu isn't being given water for over a week.

Technically, it hasn’t been over a week, but I get your point.
If you remember, days 1 through 3 they spent together as one tribe of 19.
Each player is given a canteen which they take with them as their “personnel belongings”.
Therefore, it was halfway through day 3 before they were split into 2 tribes and that night they sent Jessica packing. So even if they were completely insane and guzzled all their water during that half day of day 3, they have only been without water for days 4, 5 and 6 (when they booted Erica.)
Tonight will show days 7, 8 and 9 and we don’t exactly know which of these days Michelle is supposed to start a fire with her glasses.

But like I said, I see your point about the production company’s liability. (Which may be why some spoiler sites are saying that the pineapple patch that Ravu found was intentionally placed there by the procuders.)

Yeah, cuz, and not forgetting that I believe they have a pot which could certainly catch rainwater if they left it out, and since rainwater wouldn't need to be boiled, they can drink that. That and the "leaf licking" they've been engaging in.

Maybe I'm alone, but I am absolutely stuck on our boy Earl for the win. Level-headed, practical, doesn't make waves and yet doesn't seem to have to fly under the radar. I hope some Moto (why, oh, why do I think of my cell phone when I hear that name?) tribe losses will even things out, because if not, a pagonging will ensue. I can't believe Burnett has created such an incredible lopsided situation in this game - maybe they'll switch camps next episode or something.

No you’re not the only one.
After viewing the some of the videos on the SeeBS website, (one in particular did not show Liliana in a favorable position over at Moto) I’m beginning to think that my picking her as the overall winner was not such a good idea.
In fact, I’m beginning to think that the first time Moto goes to Tribal Council, we will be saying goodbye to Liliana.
In which case, I will then be switching to Earl as my pick for the winner.

I'm not very happy with this season so far - I hope there's a shakeup or something soon, because the deck certainly seems stacked against our guys at Ravu - and they have some of the more interesting people (Earl, Yau Man (who's my second banana in the love department), while on Moto, I love me some Luziana Boo. However, "Dreamz" can exit my TV screen anytime, and the sooner the better.

I hope there's a shakeup or something soon…

I don’t want to give anything away if folks don’t want to have the season spoiled for them so all I’ll say is, if you want to read what is going to happen highlight the following paragraph. If you don’t want the season spoil, just ignore the rest of this post.

Start highlighting here ->
According to the spoiler websites:
Gary will quite in episode #4, but not in time for the producers to call off the Immunity Challenge, so episode #4 will have two players leaving the game. One by quitting and one by getting voted off.
Then around episode 6 there is supposed to be a tribal shake up which in effect places all of the remaining females (except one) on one tribe leaving the other tribe heavy with males.

Well, that enough for now.
Take care,
Cuz

The MOTO tribe (green buffs): Alex, Boo, Cassandra, Dre, Edgardo, Gary, Liliana, Lisi and Stacy.

The RAVU tribe (orange buffs): Anthony, Earl, James, Michelle, Mookie, Rita and Yau-Man.

The Losers: Jessica, Erica, Sylvia

Deconstructing Sylvia: Architect Voted Out
On night eight, Sylvia the architect's plans finally went askew as her tribe ousted her from the game. Having been on the chopping block for weeks, the 52-year-old held her head high as she left the island. "So I've been had, and I'm not too happy about it. I actually really, really like the entire group of both tribes because we had three days to get to know everybody. I'm not that angry or resentful right now, I'm just looking forward to seeing them all after they've clawed each other's eyes out later on."

Dire Straits
The darkness surrounds the downtrodden Ravu as they return to their camp after Tribal Council. "This last Tribal Council was very brutal," mourns a demoralized Yau-Man. "We came to a realization that we are not quite connected together yet as a tribe." Before turning in for the night Rita asks that egos be put aside during their next challenge in the hopes that Ravu can finally start working together and win a challenge. Watching his tribe struggle to remain positive, Yau-Man fears the worst: "The more we lose the more difficult it is to recover."

Prosperity
Without the burden of scavenging for food, Moto continues to enjoy their good fortune with a hearty breakfast of plantains. Deciding to increase their seemingly endless comfort in camp, Lisi and Stacy pass the time painting the wooden floor of the shelter to try and minimize bug bites. Boo jokes about Moto's advantages: "It's not even Survival--it's Thrival."

FIRE!

Returning from Exile Island, Earl deflects his tribemates' questions about the hidden Immunity Idol clues. "As far as the Immunity Idol, I still have no idea where it is," says Earl. "It could be anywhere, but I'll figure something out." Meanwhile, a determined Michelle patiently holds her glasses to a dry piece of coconut husk. Slow and steady, the sun burns through the glasses, starting a flame. Jolted from their starving trance-like state, the Ravu tribe eagerly feeds the glowing embers. Cheers erupt in the Ravu camp as their first fire catches and stabilizes. "We've been strugglin' a long time," says a relieved Rocky, "And now we finally got our shot in the ass that we need."

Reward Challenge: Slip, Slide & Score

Ravu joins the Moto tribe at the challenge site where Jeff Probst explains the rules. Survivors will head off one by one sliding down a slippery course to retrieve a numbered ball randomly assigned at each round. At the end of the slippery course are tribe baskets. The first tribe member to toss the ball into their tribe basket scores a point, and the first tribe to score six points wins one of three rewards: personal luxury items, a set of fishing gear or instant gratification in the form of a basket of fresh fruit. In addition, the winning tribe will send one member from the losing tribe to Exile Island. This time that member will not be immune from Tribal Council. They will join their tribe and participate at the next immunity challenge.

In the first round Anthony from Ravu heads off against Gary, Moto's Papa Smurf, for ball number nine. Within his first few steps on the impossibly slippery course, Gary slams into the ground twice, but still manages to toss his ball in the Moto basket before Anthony, scoring the first point for Moto. Next is Rita for Ravu and Cassandra for Moto. Rita makes it across the course first, sinking a basket for Ravu with ease. In the next two rounds Moto's Boo and Stacy each score a point for Moto, putting them in the lead against Ravu 3 to 1. In the fifth round Mookie crushes Alex from Moto, scoring the second point for Ravu. But when Sylvia takes a hard fall on the course and cannot recover, Moto finds their momentum and Liliana, Edgardo and Dreamz score the final points. Moto gets the winner's choice of reward, electing to take home fishing gear and sending Sylvia to Exile Island.

Vital Idol
Not surprised at being sent to Exile Island for the second time, a humiliated Sylvia reflects on her performance in the challenge. "Today at challenge I didn't do very well and I'm very embarrassed by it." Feeling as though her time in the game could be up, Sylvia immerses herself in the next clue to finding the hidden Immunity Idol. "The third clue is so helpful. It said dig right under the tallest part of the arch of the cave and the immunity idol will be there. The idol is right smack dab in the middle of camp, says Sylvia, wheels turning. "So I need to figure out a time and place to look for the idol as quickly as possible."

Distress Call

A shadow of uncertainty falls over the Moto camp when Gary claims he is hurt. Alarmed with his inability to catch his breath after suffering a brutal fall in the challenge, Moto calls on the Survivor Medical Team. "He said that he didn't want to die in Fiji and that he was real afraid," says a tearful Cassandra. "He didn't know where he was. I know this is a passion for him. And I just want him to be okay." After a quick assessment and no signs of serious peril, Gary opts to tough it out with hope of a speedy recovery. "Gary's a great guy," states Alex. "We all kinda look up to the guy. He's in our prayers and we just hope he gets better."

Immunity Challenge: U Pick, I Chews

Sorry folks, I just couldn’t bring myself to post any pictures of players gagging and choking down that nasty stuff.
Survivors reconvene for the Immunity Challenge, where they learn they will compete head to head in a Fijian food eating competition. Excited at the prospect of eating food, Yau-man rejoices: ‘We are hungry, we are a lot hungrier than those guys are!" Jeff explains that the first tribe member to get their food down and show Jeff an empty mouth, scores a point for their tribe. The first tribe to four wins Immunity and is safe from Tribal Council.

The challenge begins as Liliana faces off with Ravu's Rocky, gnawing on the giant clams. Rocky shoves the entire clam into his mouth in an attempt to swallow it whole, while Liliana takes her time chewing her clam. Thinking she's finished the clam, Liliana reveals her empty mouth, but there is still a huge piece stuck in her teeth, giving Rocky just enough time to finish his clam and scoring the first point for Ravu. Next Dreams and Sylvia square off with an octopus tentacle each. Dreamz easily finishes what he calls calamari and brings the score to a tie, 1 to 1. Mookie rallies another point for Ravu when he rips through two peanut worms, taunting the close to vomiting Lisi. With Ravu in the lead, Moto pulls ahead as Alex and Edgardo score the next two points for Moto. Down two points to three, the fate of Ravu rests with Anthony as he matches up with Moto's injured Gary to eat two hairy pig snouts. Close to tears and unable to get the first snout down, Anthony watches in horror as Gary chomps through the pig snout, scoring the winning point for Moto.

Ravu Falling Apart
Frustrated with losing their third Immunity Challenge in a row, Mookie entertains thoughts of voting for Anthony. "[As for] Anthony, I was not happy at all with his performance in the challenge," vents Mookie. "He's just not that strong and I think the effort that he put forth really irritated me." As insurance, Rocky suggests casting votes against Anthony to maintain control in the tribe should Sylvia have the hidden Immunity Idol. If she plays it at Tribal Council, the vote would bounce back and hit Anthony.

With time running out and Tribal Council drawing near, a determined Sylvia searches for her salvation. "I'm pretty sure I know where the idol is," gasps Sylvia. "I'm going to dig right now and try to get that idol as my insurance policy. If I get the idol now and if the vote does go my way I will be able to surprise everybody."

The Will to Win

In the end, despite Anthony's will and determination being questioned, Sylvia couldn't produce the hidden Immunity Idol in time and was the third person voted out of SURVIVOR: FIJI.
