SURVIVOR PING ! ! !

Good Morning Ladies and Gentlemen!

Well we have one week (OK, OK! A week and a day!) until the premier of Survivor: Fiji and the following is the latest collection of “stuff” from the spoiler websites, vidcaps and Jeff Probst interviews regarding the “splitting up of the tribes,” the Hidden Immunity Idols, and the Coup in Fiji.

So as usual, if you don’t want to read these spoilers, close this post now and read no further!

.

.

Still here?

.

.

OK! Don’t say I didn’t warn ya!

.

.

Let’s get started, shall we?

It appears that Mark Burnett wasn’t satisfied with splitting the tribes up by ethnicity to prove his “diversity”. He had to top himself with this new season. And he did so by splitting the tribes by social status. In other words, a “rich” tribe (the “haves”) verses a “poor” tribe (the “have-nots”).

As I said above, I’ve cobbled together the pertinent facts from a couple of Jeff Probst interviews, vidcaps from previews and a couple of spoilers. Here is the scoop regarding the splitting up of the tribes, the Hidden Immunity Idols and the Coup in Fiji.

The start of the game and the splitting up the tribes:
The game starts with all 19 players paddling to shore in a double-outrigger. Once they arrive at their camp location, Jeff Probst supplies them with instructions on building “the most elaborate shelter Survivor has ever seen.” They are provided with blueprints, a building plan, a map to find lumber and tools. They are given all sorts of luxuries, like a sink, a kitchen, and a couch. All kinds of stuff to build a very elaborate shelter. They are also given flint for fire, and told that once the shelter is built, the game “can continue”.

On day three, after they have finish building this great shelter, Jeff shows up again and tells them they are now going to be split into two tribes. The players will select one member who will split the other 18 into two tribes. Sylvia is picked and she splits the players as follows:

The MOTO tribe (green buffs): Alex, Boo, Cassandra, Dre, Edgardo, Gary, Liliana, Lisi and Stacy.

The RAVU tribe (orange buffs): Anthony, Earl, Erica, James, Jessica, Michelle, Mookie, Rita and Yau-Man.

Jeff then informs Sylvia that she is the first player to be sent to Exile Island, while the two tribes compete in the first Immunity Challenge. Later at Tribal Council, Sylvia will then become a member of the losing tribe. (My guess is she takes the place of the first player booted.)

Jeff then informs them that the tribe that wins the first challenge goes back to the elaborate shelter where they will find additional luxury items. Such as hammocks, umbrellas, bottles, decanters , silverware, plates and china and a bush shower.

The losing tribe however, will be sent to a new beach where all they will be given is a machete, a pot and a water source. They will have a cave they can “kind of get under, but it’s miserable.” He also reminds them, that they will need to boil the water, but they will not have a flint.

Jeff comments: “What was really interesting was how quickly you started to see the attitude change where the winning tribe starts to have this sense of entitlement. It was fascinating to watch the rich tribe get lazy and entitled and the poor tribe get desperate and resentful.”

Regarding the Hidden Immunity Idols (Yes I said Idols!)
Jeff says that there are two Hidden Immunity Idols and they defiantly get used.
“The very first time we introduced it, you had to play it before anybody voted. Then the second time we introduced it, you could play it after the votes had been made and read. So it was an absolute get-out-of-jail-free card.
This season, I think we found the happy medium. You must play the Idol after the votes have been cast but before I read them. Before the votes, I say, "How confident are you? Do you want to take a chance? Or should you play your Idol?" That made a dramatic difference. The Idols get played. Nobody is sitting on their Idol until the end and taking it home as a souvenir.”

And finally, Jeff has this to say, regarding the Coup in Fiji
The coup was a discussion almost the entire time we were out there. We kept hearing, "OK. It's gonna happen next Saturday." And then it wouldn't happen. Then we'd hear, "OK. It's gonna happen next Tuesday." We have quite an investment in Fiji. We had people with the government that were keeping us abreast and keeping an eye out for us. People told us, at least initially, it won't be violent. It wasn't. It ended up happening during our last few days. It impacted us in terms of supplies. We have people that shop over in the mainland for stuff we need for challenges or food for our catering, stuff like that. It was difficult because they kicked all of us out of there and wouldn't let us have our stuff. But when you consider what's happening to the people who live there, the impact on us was negligible.

Take Care,

FReepmail me if you want added to (or removed from) the Survivor Ping List.

Mixing it up is good. The old format was getting a little predictable and boring.

Thanks for the look ahead. I'm glad Jeff is mixing it up in a new way to keep it fresh.

DVR is all set - gotta love that DirecTV Season Pass.
Happy belated B'Day Cuz....do you really have the handsome gray 'stache?

The season reality TV has so much "To Have and Have Not" that I expect Bogie and Bacall any minute!

Yes I do! Along with the handsom gray hair surrounding the typical "Male pattern baldness".

Although, if truth be told, the wife thinks I could stand to use some "Grecian Formula" on it.

My better half is always crabbin' about how his 'stache is gray but his hair isn't (and he, too, is a victim of MPB but cuts his hair to 1/4 inch so he thinks no one will notice). I think a touch of gray works nicely.

Fiji looks like it's going to be lots of fun. Sadly, with all of us in different time zones, I guess online blogging isn't a real possibility, huh?

Well I keep mine cut to 1/4 inch also. In my case though, it's not so no one will notice, it's because if my hair were any longer it would just look like a really bad comb-over.

Premiering TONIGHT!!!!!! at 8pm et/pt

SURVIVOR PING ! ! !

Good Morning Ladies and Gentlemen!

The time has finally arrived. Our favorite show premiers TONIGHT!!! YAAAYYYY!!!!

OK, OK, enough of the frivolities. Let’s get down to business! A short recap of how we got to where we are in the game.

We know that one player (Mellisa McNulty) has a panic attack and quits just hours before the game starts, catching Mark Burnett off guard. According to Jeff Probst, “We usually have alternates if we feel that someone might flake out at the last minute. This time we didn’t, because to be honest, we thought we had a solid group of players, and her quitting at the last minute took us completely by surprise. So we improvised.”

We also know that the 19 players spend the first three days together, building “the most elaborate Survivor Shelter” ever, before Jeff shows up and forces them to split into two tribes. Sylvia is selected to split up the players and as a result, our tribes are as follows:

The MOTO tribe (green buffs): Alex, Boo, Cassandra, Dre, Edgardo, Gary, Liliana, Lisi and Stacy.

The RAVU tribe (orange buffs): Anthony, Earl, Erica, James, Jessica, Michelle, Mookie, Rita and Yau-Man.

We also know that Sylvia is sent off to Exile Island, after splitting the players up so she does not participate in the first Immunity Challenge. She will return as a member of the losing tribe after Tribal Council, replacing the first player booted.

We also know that Jeff informs the players that the tribe to win the combined Reward/Immunity challenge will return to occupy the luxury camp, while the loosing tribe will be off to a new campsite, with next to nothing. (i.e. the haves and the have nots)

Now, the combination Reward/Immunity challenge is a chariot type race across the beach. Seven members of each tribe will be harnessed (like horses) and will be pulling a sled over the sand. Two members of each tribe will be riding the sled as it is pulled and will be retrieving bags of puzzle pieces from four points along the race course. Once the tribe has retrieved all puzzle pieces and returned to the starting point, a puzzle must be solved, opening a box containing a knife which will be used to cut through a rope, raising the tribe’s flag. The first flag raised wins.

The vidcaps from the promos show both tribes to be pretty much neck and neck through the course. The only thing we have to go on is a “dejected looking” Mookie, which leads us to believe that the Ravu tribe looses and Moto wins. This is further enforced by vidcaps of Liliana, Stacy, Alex and Boo (wearing their Green buffs) and enjoying the good life around the elaborate camp. We also see vidcaps of Earl, and Anthony (wearing their Orange buffs) struggling at a new campsite.

So there you have it:

Cuz’s Weekly Picks!

Reward Challenge Winner: Combined with Immunity Challenge
Sent to Exile Island: Sylvia
Immunity Challenge Winner: Moto
First Player booted from the game: Jessica

As usual, I’ll be back bright and early Monday morning with my recap.
So till then,

Take Care,

FReepmail me if you want added to (or removed from) the Survivor Ping List.

thanks for the info. last season was my first watching Survivor. I found it entertaining enough to look forward to this season (not that there is a lot of competition on TV)

Oh and by the way, (I almost forgot!) for those who keep track of these things, the title for tonight's episode is:

"Something Cruel Is About to Happen... Real Soon"

Take care,

That was a major goof up. They should ALWAYS have an alternative or two or three. Can't wait for tonight! Thanks for the thread, as usual.

I tried to watch the Apprentice but it's just the same old same old in spite of the attempt to mix it up with two locations. Please say this is the last season and let Trump's tv moment fade away.

I agree, Apprentice is tired, worn out, and ready for the trash heap. The world's toughest job interview has contestants hawking chicken at Pollo Locco......Please...............!

Got a pot of chili going and counting down. Hope this season's Survivor throws in some new twists and gets rid of the same ol' same ol' challenges.

Ok. I'm gonna stick a pizza in the oven and get into position.

This came at me so fast and frankly unexpectedly. I wanted to get a bottle of Fiji Water. Maybe next week.

I'm in shock about Anna Nicole Smith. I just heard about it leaving work.

Whoa Cuz, looks like no one showed up to post during the show. It was OK I guess, the first part kind of dragged. Rocky can get voted out next as far as I am concerned. No one else stands out in a good way. I think we'll see more tempers flaring with the good camp/bad camp set up.

Did anyone else have trouble reading the votes at the end of the show? I don't know if it's the paper they used or the writing implement. I always like to see who everyone voted for.

The first 10 minutes of the show the audio for the music was working but not for the dialog so I couldn't hear what anyone was saying. Maybe it was just a local cable snafu.

My observation about Sylvia is that she is kind of bossy. Maybe she won't last long.

And what was that thing that went on between Dre and Rocky? Could Dre have been more annoying? Did I hear him asking people to raise their hands if they were white or something along those lines? He may not be around long either.

I've always been surprised that nobody has ever lost their cool and bopped another player in the nose. I think the most heated it has ever become was a little back-and-forth pushing. But Dre & Rocky seemed pretty close to coming to fisticuffs tonight.

Maybe this will be the season that is the last straw for someone. The "haves" had everything handed to them on a silver platter. They didn't have to work for the goodies they have been given. The "have-nots" helped to build the shelters they cannot live in. And everything they gain will be with blood, sweat and tears. Sounds familiar. I predict lots of resentment but I think it was an interesting twist.
