(vanity) I'm a "24" neophyte. Help!

I have never watched the TV show "24" before, but I plan to finally get on board this season.

What do I need to know before I start?

Am I going to be hopelessly lost when I watch tonight?

You'll be fine. Each season is a new day and although the characters come back around, you'll understand it.

I'd STRONGLY advise investing in a DVR if you get hooked. Also, renting the prior seasons and catching up, eventually!

Have FUN! GG

i generalized by saying "shows like that".

tv doesnt make its living by alienating new viewers who have never seen an episode. they usually do a recap and the dialogue brings up key points from last season. i used to watch alias and was frustrated how they kept explaining stuff that i personally already knew. it was kinda soap operaish. but she wore underwear almost every show so i kept coming back.

Go rent/buy the entire five seasons, start watching and get on board. I did last year. Wish I could watch it this year, but I have a class on Monday nights. It gets your adrenaline going so I watch it on DVD while working out.

God bless the MMMs. Without them Kaffir would still be on the B List.

Oh, I should have thought about that. Because we all know that watching a television drama series is key to defeating the Muslim Mass Murderers and their sympathizers. That's preposterous.

I don't think anyone believes it's a key in defeating the Muslim Mass Murderers but 24 sure gives me a warm fuzzy when those Mass Murderers get their due on the show. Kind of like I suspect those Hollywood movies they made during WW2 for the folks on the homefront to lift moral.

Thanks for your concern. My time is my choice.

This will be the only television show I watch all year.

I jumped right in tonight, and you were right. I didn't need to know any backstory. They filled in what I didn't already know. Pretty engaging stuff.

Unfortunately, I have terrible Fox TV reception in our mountain valley, but I refuse to get cable. I had to watch the whole thing with the sound down because the static was so loud.

Chloe didn't do much tonight except frown, pout and scowl. And almost get Jack killed.

I'm not sure what her character is all about.

Thanks. Watched the first show tonight--taped it and watched when the kids were in bed.

Where's a good place to get a quick update on what has happened to Jack in the past, where his wife & daughter are now, how the current President Palmer got into office, etc.?

And what's with the weaselly advisor, Tom?

Uhhhh...thanks.

I highly doubt any of that will come to pass, but thanks.

Oh, I thought it was on every Sunday night. It's on Mondays?

As I said, I'm clueless.

"Where's a good place to get a quick update on what has happened to Jack in the past"

You can start with the network's official site.

http://www.fox.com/24/

"where his wife & daughter are now,"

If you're ever gonna watch previous seasons, telling you would be spoiler territory. Sure you wanna know?

"how the current President Palmer got into office, etc.?"

This President Palmer was elected sometime between the end of last season & the beginning of this one. We found out at the same time Jack did.

"And what's with the weaselly advisor, Tom?"

Looks like he helped get President Palmer elected...

http://www.fox.com/24/profiles/tl.htm

BTW, there's always at least one weaselly adviser on the show. I think the current President was kinda one of those himself at one point. ;o)

Oh, I think Chloe's great. I don't even mind her personality disorder.

And why is that? Does this show contain terrorism-defeating tips?
