District Attorney Mike Nifong has requested that he have himself removed from prosecuting the Duke Lacrosse rape investigation, ABC News has learned.
A source close to the investigation said Nifong sent a letter to North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper asking his office to assume responsibility of the case.Calls to the Attorney General's office and Mike Nifong's office were not yet returned.
Three Duke Lacrosse players, Reade Seligmann, Collin Finnerty, and David Evans were indicted in 2006 on charges of rape, sexual assault, and kidnapping.
The rape charges were dropped in December after the accuser could not recall key details of the alleged attack.
Really?
Wrong. The right answer is, drop all the charges and then resign from the Office.
Scumbag is kicking the can to someone else who will have to face the consequences of dismissing the case.
Check it OUT:)
Next he needs to be disbarred and kept from practicing law in any state, sued in civil court by all those accused, and then spend some time (if at all possible) in prison. In other words - HIS life needs to be destroyed!
Can we extend loser pays to the state?
Either we are equal or we are not. Good people ought to be armed where they will, with wits and guns and the truth. NRA KMA
"Wrong. The right answer is, drop all the charges and then resign from the Office." You are absolutely right. This guy should be disbarred.
Why does he get off the hook? Most people that screw up; those that are not politicians; get FIRED and do not get to quit. He wanted all the glory and now when it gets rough, he wants out...typical liberal.
This has NOT been confirmed by our local stations.
Looks like the 'victims' changing stories finally got to him.
hhhmmmm...testing the waters, maybe?
Whaaattttt?
He's not gonna get off that easily. Those families should be aiming a civil rights violation suit at his personal wealth in addition to suing the state.
Shame, shame, shame on Nifong. And on the accusers too.
I normally don't wish bad things to happen to people, but there comes a time when temptation is great....
seems I heard a few days ago that he's protected from any sort of prosecutorial misconduct charges?
Duke University itself has potential legal liabilities sufficient to shut the place down. At a bare minimum, they have to fire the admin and faculty echelon which went along for the ride on this one and then move. Nobody in their right mind would send a kid to any school in or even close to Durham NC after this.
