St. Petersburg, Florida - Debbie Bingham says she was outside enjoying the neighborhood fireworks on New Year's Eve when she felt a sharp pain in her left shoulder.
Debbie Bingham, Shot in Shoulder: "I grabbed my shoulder and noticed I was bleeding. And then I pulled my blouse back and saw the big hole and realized that it was a gun shot." Someone had fired a gun into the air, and Bingham was struck by the falling bullet. Bingham says it would have been much worse, if not for her bra.
Debbie Bingham, Shot in Shoulder: "The bullet was halfway inside of my bra, and the other half right on the tip of my skin." Bingham believes the bra helped stopped the 45-caliber bullet. Police still don't know who fired the gun, but say it is against the law to shoot a gun into the air.
Debbie Bingham was taken to the hospital after the incident and needed five stitches. But she's just happy it wasn't worse and thankful for her bra.
Debbie Bingham, Shot in Shoulder: "It was a very cheap bra. it wasn't very expensive and I'd love to have a couple more of those bras."

Yes. There is a FReeper, and I believe his wife, that have their own bra business. I believe that "bullet bras" are their specialty. Retro type bras.
Can't remember the name. I'm pretty sure the business is still going.

One of the dispatchers at a local P.D. was cleaning his 45 one night when it went off, shot his radio dispatch console, luckily for him he killed the drawer just beneath it, by about 1 inch below it.

Actually, Mythbusters already did a show on the bullet falling back down to earth killing someone. It was busted I think. The bullets barely had enough velocity on the way down to pierce the skin.

I believe they were called "bullet bras", no doubt for the shape as opposed to defensive purposes.

You have a very good memory. See my FR homepage. We've been selling these things for years. Not much demand, but it's an amusing hobby.
