I recently came across an 1840 $2 bank note issued by Bank of Bennington (Vermont) in the papers of a retired West Coast university president. I'm wondering if it has extraordinary value.
$2
Contact you local numismatic society.....
I hope I posted this correctly under "non-news vanity". Thanks in advance for any thoughts.
heh $2 - that's what I suspected ...
Numismatic value is between $5.00 and $50.00 depending on condition of the note.
Here is an ebay listing for a $5 B of B note that has an asking price of $5 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170061447672
Try Heritage Auctions. They sell stuff like this.

That's a great idea. If the bank is still viable perhaps we may donate it back to them. Unless I can figure how it came into our possesion it doesn't fit into our collecting mission and we would be inclined to find a better home.
Thanks for your suggestions all. I have archaeologist Fulco now on the case as well.
No that currency is a $3.00 bill!!!
Vermont seceded from New York and then tried to secede from the USA. The note is worth the paper it is printed on. Perhaps a collector would offer $$$$.
