I recently came across an 1840 $2 bank note issued by Bank of Bennington (Vermont) in the papers of a retired West Coast university president. I'm wondering if it has extraordinary value.

That's a great idea. If the bank is still viable perhaps we may donate it back to them. Unless I can figure how it came into our possesion it doesn't fit into our collecting mission and we would be inclined to find a better home.

Vermont seceded from New York and then tried to secede from the USA. The note is worth the paper it is printed on. Perhaps a collector would offer $$$$.
