Not close. It's in Palm Springs.
Arches National Park is a must. (Moab, Utah)
Mesa Verde National Park is 3 hours away in Colorado.
Both very cool!
If you have kids skip Disneyline and take them to Knotts Berry Farm instead.
You'll pay less and have a lot more fun!
I wouldn't take a 15 yo boy to Vegas.
We aren't going to gamble; I'd like to see the art at the Bellagio and the lights at night.
Should I avoid that too? I really have no clue.
They don't call it Sin City for nothing.
If you'ld take your son to Bourbon Street in NOLA, then you might be okay going to Vegas.
And I thought Vegas was trying to market itself as a family-friendly vacation spot..
Hey, I saw my first drug deal at age 15 in The Haight, when it was still "Haight-Ashbury" in the 1960s.
I would've never noticed it, except my dad saw a hippie palming *something* to another hippie surreptitiously and it was thrilling, lol. A real drug deal!
Many years ago, they used to do a Firefall at Yosemite every night at 9PM in the summer. The one they did on the 4th of July was bigger and more spectacular. It was breathtaking to see a waterfall of fire going over a 3000 ft cliff in the pitch dark.
They would call to the fire builder up at the top and then someone would sing the Indian Love Call through the woods in the dark while the ball of fire was tumbling down the mountainside. Wow, it was something - very haunting.
However, they discontinued it shortly after I got to see it - it had been going on for 100 years, I think. What I'm wondering is if Yosemite has replaced that with something similar. There is also a firefall in NM, which I'll have to look up for you.
Yay for Bodie!
Then try to find Masonic.
:-)
If you decide to, spend a couple of days in Lake Tahoe. Even if you're not a gambler, it's still a great place to spend some vacation time.
The only drawback I see is what to do with them if you want to see other entertainment or activities. Mostly have to stay near and set meeting times if you separate.
The "Sin City" aspect of Vegas is there, but so is the family entertainment. And the two are necessarilly mixed.
