It is the talk of the neighborhood. Police say a 44-year-old woman killed her 12-year-old son, and then tried unsuccessfully to take her own life. On Friday night, the woman's husband came home from work and found a suicide note in the bedroom of their Basking Ridge home. He immediately called police who found the woman and her son in the basement. Twelve-year-old Jack Kimzey was on the floor dead. Preliminary indications are that he may have been strangled or suffocated. His mother, Denise Volpicelli, was found bleeding in a bathroom in the basement. Her wrists, arms and legs had been slit.
"She just seemed like an ordinary soccer type mom driving her kids, involved in the neighborhood, and involved with her friends," said one Morristown woman. "[She was] an average woman. You don't expect to see this type of thing happen in this community."
On Saturday, police searched the home and removed a computer as part of their investigation. On Sunday, church congregations said prayers for the family while neighbors mourned the loss of the 12-year-old who was often seen shooting hoops or playing with his dog. "It's really sad. It's touched everybody," said another woman. Jack Kimzey used to play baseball with her son. Volpicelli is being treated at Morristown Hospital. She is charged with First Degree Murder. The woman is being held in New Jersey on $200,000 bail
Guess she doesn't like soccer.
What was she indicted on?
Ok, so dad comes home and finds the note but doesn't bother looking around the house? He leaves that task for the police? Who wouldn't rush around looking for their family and perhaps saving someone. How sure are we he wasn't involved?
How sure are we he wasn't involved? >>
we are very sure. And we are very sure Andrea Yates murdered her children too, are you a soocer mom?
Basking Ridge is a pretty exclusive area in New Jersey; maybe she was under a lot of pressure to keep the place clean like that Yates creature.
Why is this story being posted now, all these months later?
She was just indicted. See Post #1
Was this the only child they had?
Was this some kind of epilepsy that is untreatable and causes the person to be unable to care for themselves?
I usually dont see epilepsy as being that traumatic that one would become hopeless for the future of an afflicted child.
I live in the type of community where you do expect things like that to happen. It's kinda like a rite of passage. Although the neighborhood is changing... some of the newer folks kill their sons when they're 14.

If what I just wrote made you sad or angry,
it was probably just a joke.

" ... How sure are we he wasn't involved?"
The boy's epilepsy wasn't that bad - he'd only been recently diagnosed and they hadn't even explored all the treatment options yet.

He certainly could have been, and it does sound suspicious, but maybe he didn't have the stomach for finding his wife's body. Plus, if there was a chance to help her, minutes count. He might have thought to call for help before looking himself
That's very sad. I knew a woman who had epilepsy and still competed at the world level in bycicle racing. This kid would probably have had a long and productive life.
One of my shop teachers, a really great guy, had epilepsy. He let us know what to do if there was ever a problem on the first day of classes. There never was any problems.
To this day, he was probably the best teacher I ever had, outside of my parents.
You really don't like soccer moms, eh?
My cousin, one of the neatest guys you'd ever want to meet, had epilepsy too. It seems to me that there must be more to this story than meets the eye.
