Personally, I love the fact that I live in America at this time of great challenge, where our future is being written as we speak and modern communications has allowed us to peer into every corner of the world.

However, when the Time Machine is invented, I plan to visit some historical places and events, and absorb some other periods of awesome historical significance.

5. 500 BC Greece - to see the golden era of the most influential ancient culture on western thought.

4. 970 BC Israel - to meet King Solomon, son of David, one of the most fascinating rulers in history.

3. 1190 AD Europe. To witness the defeat of the muslims at the hands of (3rd) Crusaders

2. Late 19th century America - to witness the still young country rising to prominince and power

1. 1774 to 1800 America. To meet the greatest collection of men ever to congregate in one place, giving birth to the greatest nation ever.

"You hated the 80s? That is when America was reborn."

Maybe, but the music sucked.

I'd go for historically less significant but more entertaining. Like attending at least one show on the original Wall tour, maybe the Monterey Pop Festival (most of the same good acts as Woodstock, better weather), see Yul Brenner in a stage production of King and I. Fun stuff. Most of the big events in history I'd have to spend a couple of years studying the language to avoid just watching people speak gibberish, unless we invented the universal translator first.

LOL! Why go way back or forward and waste good mileage.

I'll simply write down the winning Powerball lottery numbers, go back in time a week, win and live happily ever after.

Hendrix. A bunch of other musicians.

That would take me a few years of time travel trips.

Tuscany, during the Renaissance. I'd like to snap some photos of various lost works (and faces), such as the cartoons da Vinci and Michelangelo made for their face-off over the Battle of Angiari, and in Milan, the clay model of da Vinci's horse sculpture.

Tiahuanaco in its heyday. Ditto, Teotihuacan.

Rome during the Julio-Claudian dynasty, again during the reign of Trajan, and once more during the reign of Aurelian.

Carthage at its foundation and at its peak, and Troy during the Trojan War.

Giza plateau, dropping in at various times over a period of sixty years while the pyramids were going up.

Stonehenge under construction.

And of course, the obvious one, photographing all the ancient Seven Wonders. :')

I would choose this. I would also make sure that the Republican Congress didn't compromise with the Southern Demoncrats threatening a filibuster over election results (Florida was one of the contested races) and come up with the Compromise of 1877 so that the South would have stayed Republican with lots of newly freed blacks in their elected seats. I would also love to attend the 1894 World Columbian Exposition in Chicago.
