CHRISTMAS
STORIES

Tim Burton's holiday classic, THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS (1993), makes a return to the big screen each holiday season. The dazzling new make-over of the musical-fantasy was led by writer/producer Tim Burton and the technical wizards at Industrial Light + Magic.

Audiences will get closer than ever to Halloweentown's beloved Pumpkin King, Jack Skellington, as he attempts to take over the Christmas holiday. Against the advice of Sally, a lonely rag doll who has feelings for him, Jack enlists three mischievous trick-or-treaters – Lock, Shock, and Barrel – to help him kidnap Santa Claus. Jack eventually realizes his mistake but has to contend with the evil Oogie Boogie before he can make things right and restore the Christmas holiday. Fueled by an unforgettable soundtrack featuring ten ghoulishly delightful songs by Danny Elfman who also provided the singing voice for Jack.

A CHRISTMAS STORY (1985) is humorist Jean Shepard's vignette-laden, nostalgic view of Christmastime in Indiana during the 1940s.

The main story involves nine-year-old Ralphie, who desperately wants a Red Ryder BB Gun for Christmas -- and is waging an all-out campaign to convince his reluctant parents that the toy will be safe in his hands. Meanwhile, Ralphie prepares for the big day with his rather idiosyncratic family. For example, his brother has a strange relationship with food, and his dad is obsessed with a crossword puzzle contest. But the most important question of all is...when Christmas Day arrives, will Ralphie be the proud (and careful) owner of a Red Ryder BB Gun?

IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE (1946) George Bailey has so many problems he is thinking about ending it all - and it's Christmas ! As the angels discuss George, we see his life in flashback. As George is about to jump from a bridge, he ends up rescuing his guardian angel, Clarence. Clarence then shows George what his town would have looked like if it hadn't been for all his good deeds over the years. Will Clarence be able to convince George to return to his family and forget about suicide ?

Boxing Day in Britain is a public holiday for virtually everyone even the supermarkets closed today though that seems to vary from year to year. If one decides to open then they all do but this year only the German supermarket in Ashford was open.

Some of the other shops were open though such as DIY and furniture shops.

Tomorrow though the sales start in earnest.

The Cayman's used to be a British Crown Colony so they celebrate all the English holidays. In fact, their Governor is still appointed by the Queen.

I am sorry.. that is still "fresh"... mom's have a special place in our hearts & minds. Despite the differences along the way, we owe a lot of who we are to the influence of our moms.

I know my rather flamboyant dress, jewelry etc is from my mom. she was always very distinctive & different in her look. She was (is) very attractive & so could carry off a burlap sack well!

Here is a collage I have done of mom.. as you can see in the most recent pix, she looks pretty good for a gal in late 80s

John always keeps her nice. She sheds a lot & when I have her, I comb her a lot.. After with me she wasn't so pristine. The ponds, rivers, burrs, mud...but she had fun!

I must admit do not know much about the Cayman Isles apart from that they are an ex colony and as you say the Governor is still a crown appointment.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your mum.

I know Christmas is a mixed bag of emotions for you this year.

This poem seemed to help me through it.

I still hear the songs, I still see the lights.

I still feel your love on cold wintery nights.

I still share your hopes and all of your cares. I'll even remind you to please say your prayers.

I just want to tell you, you still make me proud. You stand head and shoulders above all the crowd.

Keep trying each moment to stay in His grace. I came here before youto help set your place.

You don't have to be perfect all of the time. He forgives you the slip, if you continue to climb.

To my family and FRiends please be thankful today. I'm still close beside you, In a new special way.

I love you all dearly, now don't shed a tear, Cause I'm spending my Christmas with Jesus this year.

The Island doesn't indulge in many markdowns and bargains. Catering to tourists keeps the prices high.
