CHRISTMAS STORIES
Tim Burton's holiday classic, THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS (1993), makes a return to the big screen each holiday season. The dazzling new make-over of the musical-fantasy was led by writer/producer Tim Burton and the technical wizards at Industrial Light + Magic.
Audiences will get closer than ever to Halloweentown's beloved Pumpkin King, Jack Skellington, as he attempts to take over the Christmas holiday. Against the advice of Sally, a lonely rag doll who has feelings for him, Jack enlists three mischievous trick-or-treaters Lock, Shock, and Barrel to help him kidnap Santa Claus. Jack eventually realizes his mistake but has to contend with the evil Oogie Boogie before he can make things right and restore the Christmas holiday. Fueled by an unforgettable soundtrack featuring ten ghoulishly delightful songs by Danny Elfman who also provided the singing voice for Jack.
A CHRISTMAS STORY (1985) is humorist Jean Shepard's vignette-laden, nostalgic view of Christmastime in Indiana during the 1940s.
The main story involves nine-year-old Ralphie, who desperately wants a Red Ryder BB Gun for Christmas -- and is waging an all-out campaign to convince his reluctant parents that the toy will be safe in his hands. Meanwhile, Ralphie prepares for the big day with his rather idiosyncratic family. For example, his brother has a strange relationship with food, and his dad is obsessed with a crossword puzzle contest. But the most important question of all is...when Christmas Day arrives, will Ralphie be the proud (and careful) owner of a Red Ryder BB Gun?
ITS A WONDERFUL LIFE (1946) George Bailey has so many problems he is thinking about ending it all - and it's Christmas ! As the angels discuss George, we see his life in flashback. As George is about to jump from a bridge, he ends up rescuing his guardian angel, Clarence. Clarence then shows George what his town would have looked like if it hadn't been for all his good deeds over the years. Will Clarence be able to convince George to return to his family and forget about suicide ?

Greetings from sunny Iowa! I finally got here last night and had my first look at the house today. Wow!! Considering I rented it online and could only go on the agent's statments that it was 'nice,' I did great!
I'm on dialup until the cable is installed next week, so probably not a lot of FReeping, but am happy to say I made it here in one piece, the house is everything I wanted, I found the local Rush station, and I'm just thrilled beyond belief.
A Happy Chanukah, Merry Christmas to me! And to the good folks of Iowa that I've met so far. But I guess most of all, even moving far from everyone I know, I always have my FReeper FRiends, so I'm never alone. Happy Holidays, y'all!

Well.....the verdict on my old car and the deer hit is in.
Not surprisingly, it was a total loss.
I had hoped that they would give me perhaps $1300 or so, or maybe $1000 and allow me to keep the car, and I would try and get it fixed.
BUT....
They are NOT going to give me $1000, or even $2000...But over $2300... for a 1988 Riviera!! AND...allow me to keep the car!!! That is over 3 TIMES what I paid for it in November!!
In my WILDEST imaginations, I would have NEVER thought that old car could be worth anywhere near that much!! That is OVER 3 TIMES what I paid for it!!
So...now.. I am unsure what I am going to do. I would like to get the car fixed...but I WILL NOT accept a "patchwork car", where the door and fender are different colors than the rest of the car. One way or another--I have to keep it a bit longer, I STILL have not gotten my van back--they are having some kind of trouble with the tranny they put in.
In the meantime--if another Riv or even a trofeo comes along, at a decent price with the touch screen and in decent shape and miles and is not too far away--I will heavily consider getting it!!

Oh Jack, that is wonderful! Such great news. You well know it could have come back at 900 or so!
I have sung the praises of Adesa auction for years here at FR. I got my van a few years ago there. Black book was 8900 for what I had/mileage etc. I pain 3200. for the check you have in hand you could get a nice car I am sure & no doubt the riverea. You need an agent to work w/you & must pay cash with in a day. Adesa is all over the usa. we are lucky as there is one about 5 miles from my home.
After I got my van & told my uncle about it he told me that that is where he got his almost new cadilacs every 2 years! But he was going to the one in Buffalo.

that is what I would be afraid of with my van.. it is not too valuable but would cost a LOT to replace it!

Actually they are called Willow Tree, but they focus on Angels. What is really interesting is that the angels don't have physical features on their faces.
