This is directed at upper crust ladies or those who would like to be.
I am quite well off, but have lousy fashion instincts, taste and sense for what women want. For my wife's present I typically just go to Tiffany's or Louis Vuitton on Christmas Eve, and buy what the cutest sales girl recommends. I had to do this for a number of years before my wife forgave me for the cookbook I gave her one year.
I'm trying to do better this time. Any women want to tell me what's hot among the ladies who lunch this year? My wife is 40 and skinny enough to wear any designer. Suggestions for "romantic" gifts that will be, ahem, repaid in kind are particularly welcome.
thanks,
-ccm
Why not go shopping with her and buy her something she likes? Then, instead of going home, check into a luxurious hotel room filled with flowers, candles and champagne you've preaarranged- and enjoy....room service.
I don't know your wife but.... how about a puppy? ;9)
A copy of this thread and a credit card tucked inside Dr. Laura's book "The Proper Care and Feeding of Husbands"?
Shopping idea ping:0)
Buy her a day (gift card) at the Red Door Spa. Add about $200 to the tab for miscellaneous products she can go home with. Make sure you add the gratuity in so she doesn't even have to think about $$$.
Think you need to provide more info. What are her hobbies and interests?
Maybe you should look at some reputable antiquary - they do not come cheap, but occasionally one could see some pretty tasteful small gifts from, say, early 19th century or the 18th.
How about a nice set of pipe wrenches or a new chainsaw?
Buy her a BMW or a Porsche
I'm 40 too and "skinny". Go for diamonds. Just updated my solitare at the hubs expense. WOW - that was back in June. I love the hub! That's why we don't do Christmas gifts. I go and and get what I want when I want.
Good luck with your selection.
Post 2 and the diamonds or rather jewelery (pendant necklace or bracelets) is always nice. I also like to get the higher-end perfumes. Look at what ones she has and get her one she DOESN'T have. My husband does this now its worked for him so far!
Tiffany's always does wonders for me. I think ccmay has it handled. This year, my big present is a big donation to Boys Town. That makes me happiest.
kids? if so go with the birthstones in a bracelet/ring/necklace or something she likes and tell her that you wanted to get her something special to thank her for giving you such beutiful children. If not something boring like that, two tickets to paradise would rock. http://www.scubadivingbelize.com/turneffe.html
If you're willing to drop 100K I understand Vincent Gallo is availble for a weekend, but that probably isn't what you had in mind.
If she has a favorite artist buy her a framed original.
I was thinking of a new set of 33" tires, or maybe a new lever gun.
Could get her one of those new fancy tracking collars so she can find her Walker Hound.
However, I think he is looking for a real knock your sox off, ignore all costs type of gift. Obviously, the only answer is his n hers bass boats.
I always answered, "A mink coat," because when I was about 19 years old, I happened to be at a restaurant named "The Trails Inn" on Sepulveda Blvd. in L.A., owned by Ben Gage & his then wife, swimmer/actress, Esther Williams.
Not looking at faces when they came through the door - all I saw was that mink coat!
