Doom. Definitely.

Oh, yeah, and this little Star Trek game I have on a floppy at home. If you want to keep Klingons from circling Uranus, this is the app for you!!

1990: Windows 3.0

I would not consider an operating system an "app". I may even have a difficult time considering Windows 3.0 an "operating system".

matlab 4.0 (for windows, unix, VMS, and what have you) made engineers and analysts 10X more productive. Matlab truly is the language of engineering.

OK, I read his, now let's read yours. Thanks.

P.S. My first computer was a DEC Rainbow. It was very expensive and almost obsolete the minute it came out because of it's weird version of MS DOS. Thanks Ken Olsen.

My current company uses Lotus Notes and is switching to Outlook/Exchange to match the rest of the Corp. that purchased us last year. This was the first time I had ever used Lotus and the cool factor wore off quick when I realized how primitive it was compared to Outlook/Exchange. The first coporate groupware mail program I used was MS Mail. It was pretty simple and easy, but Exchange 5.5 was a major imporvement.

I'm surprised that WordPerfect didn't make the list.
It was THE PC-based word processor of the late 80s and was a predacessor to MS Word.

Myst was the game that first made graphics so important for gamers.

Man, that list brings back memories. I remember when I first encountered WordStar. It was like a miracle. You could edit ON THE *FLY*. Cool stuff for someone who grew up writing school papers on an electronic typewriter.
