December 14, 2006 The End of The Dixie Chicks
The Dixie Chicks have been together since 1989... But it seems Natalie Maines' political outspokenness has brought the end of the band!
Emily Robison, Martie Maguire & Natalie Maines have announced that they are going to split up after the Grammy Awards in February 2007.
The Chicks are tired & wrung out, they’ve come to the end & they want a break from each other to spend more time with their families.
But the real reason behind the split is political.
Robison & Maguire have supported many of Maines' political beliefs, even though it’s put their lives & the lives of their families in jeopardy.
"They’ve received death threats, & it’s made them all nervous wrecks.”
The Dixie Chicks are nominated for a few awards in the upcoming Grammy's; Record of the Year (Not Ready To Make Nice), Album of the Year (Taking The Long Way), Song of the Year (Not Ready To Make Nice), Best Country Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal (Not Ready To Make Nice), Best Country Album (Taking The Long Way), and Producer Of The Year, Non-Classical (Rick Rubin on Taking The Long Way.)

The writing was on the wall for the chicks playing to half-empty venues across the country and cancelling shows. (while Tim McGraw & Faith Hill sold out everywhere)

Plus the movie is out so they can all go their seperate ways and leave Natalie to be with Cindy Sheehan
Good riddance.
If the others have enough money, there is no reason to put up with Natalie and her baggage.
What I wouldn't give to be hanging out with them right now!

Add a pound of browned breakfast sausage in with the melted Velveeta and Ro-Tel tomatoes, serve with a bag of tortilla chips and a cold beer, and I could call that lunch...

this is the Grammy voters version of 'country,' lol.
I saw Emily and Martie being interviewed about 6 or 7 months before the world started to crumble for the Dixie Chicks. Must have been late 2003. Anyway the sisters were asked about why they didn't play at some event that had political overtones and Emily said that she refused to get involved in ANY political events, ever, because no matter what they would probably tick off at least half their fans. And she was right! If only ALL 3 band members were so sensible.
at least the sisters can retire now and let Natalie fend for herself, this should be fun to watch!
