The 20 Most Overrated Movies of All Time
Premiere Magazine ^ | December 12, 2006 | various

Posted on 12/13/2006 5:40:45 PM PST by EveningStar

It happens to everyone who loves movies: You're in a conversation at a bar, or at a wedding, or online, and someone begins rhapsodizing about one of their favorite movies and you can't help but say, "Uh, that movie sucks. It's totally overrated." How two perfectly well-balanced individuals can have such drastically different views of the same film is one of the great wonders of being a film fanatic. It happens to us at Premiere all the time, enough so that sometimes we find ourselves questioning who we work with (boy, did it get ugly here when Love, Actually came out, and some of us are still snickering over our boss's love for Bowfinger, not to mention his affection for The Last Samurai). Well, we decided to let our staff go at each other regarding some of the more beloved movies of all time, and, sure enough, sobbing can still be heard coming from the bathroom stalls. Relationships have been strained. Egos bruised. Consider this a film lovers' quarrel, an admittedly rabid one.

It is quite raunchy, so beware, its a John Waters film, more mainstream than most of his work, but not as accessible as Hairspray or Serial Mom.

Jules and Jim is over rated!

THE RED SHOES is brilliant and is as watchable today, as it was when it was made; unlike so many other movies.

TITANIC put me to sleep and ANYTHING with DiCaprio isn't worth even trying to watch.

GONE WITH THE WIND is a wonderful movie ( the book IS better though ) and doesn't belong on this list.

Titanic...DiCaprio is laughable. I cannot believe anyone can take this boy-man seriously.
Pearl Harbor...Ben Affleck. 'nuff said.
Anything with Kevin Costner.
Anything with Kevin Bacon.
Anything by Woody Allen.
From Here to Eternity.

Fast Times had Phoebie Cates topless coming out of the pool!

My god, nothing has ever been that nice in a film since.

Worth buying the DVD.

I saw Cecil B. Demented when it first came out. It was pretty funny. I'm always pensive about seeing a John Waters movie but of the few I've seen, that one and Serial Mom are pretty funny.

Maybe it will get hyped up now so that some people can put it on their over-rated list!

I have no use for Woody Allen or his humor so I take a pass on his movies.

SLEEPERS is one of my favorite movies, of all time.

I also like THE PURPLE ROSE OF CAIRO a lot.

Hate BANANAS, am sick to death of ANNIE HALL, really, really, really HATE the one that he tried to do, yet outdo Fellini and CASINO ROYALE.

APHRODITE was very good and yes, the rest of the ones you posted are very enjoyable.

I don't agree with the Patriot. I thought that was great. The rest on your list I agree.

I never watched Titantic, I have no desire to watch history written down to satisfy 13 year old girls.

If you liked The Red Shoes, check out some of the other films that Powell and Pressburger made: Black Narcissus, The Life and Times of Colonel Blimp, I Know Where I'm Going!.

Today you could just rent the DVD and print out a nice still shot and not have to bother with the rest of the movie. Well, Spicole was okay.

Pearl Harbor...Ben Affleck. 'nuff said.

But I can't let it go without the song from Team America

I miss you more then Michael Bay missed the mark
When he made Pearl Harbor
I miss you more than that movie missed the point
And that’s an awful lot girl
And now, now you’ve gone away
And all I’m trying to say is
Pearl Harbor sucked, and I miss you

I need u like Ben Affleck needs acting school
He was terrible in that film
I need u like Cuba Gooding needed a bigger part
He’s way better than Ben Affleck
And now all I can think about is your smile
and that sh-tty movie too
Pearl Harbor sucked and I miss you

Why does Michael Bay get to keep on making movies?
I guess Pearl Harbor sucked
Just a little bit more than I miss you

Noooooooooooo, that was the FIRST movie based on a series of books, that Cabaret was based on; but you're close. :-)

And FWIW, the movie, I A CAMERA is not a bad little film.

He didn't direct or write Casino Royale. It was directed by 5 directors and was all over the place and spliced back together, he just had a bit part in the film, but that was all.

And, no one can do Fellini but Fellini, 8 1/2 and Armacord and La Dolce Vita and La Strada and Nights of Cabiria are amazing films.

Woody tried too hard with Stardust Memories to do Fellini and he tried to do Bergmann with Interiors, and neither film is worth much.
