The 20 Most Overrated Movies of All Time
Premiere Magazine ^ | December 12, 2006 | various

Posted on 12/13/2006 5:40:45 PM PST by EveningStar

It happens to everyone who loves movies: You're in a conversation at a bar, or at a wedding, or online, and someone begins rhapsodizing about one of their favorite movies and you can't help but say, "Uh, that movie sucks. It's totally overrated." How two perfectly well-balanced individuals can have such drastically different views of the same film is one of the great wonders of being a film fanatic. It happens to us at Premiere all the time, enough so that sometimes we find ourselves questioning who we work with (boy, did it get ugly here when Love, Actually came out, and some of us are still snickering over our boss's love for Bowfinger, not to mention his affection for The Last Samurai). Well, we decided to let our staff go at each other regarding some of the more beloved movies of all time, and, sure enough, sobbing can still be heard coming from the bathroom stalls. Relationships have been strained. Egos bruised. Consider this a film lovers' quarrel, an admittedly rabid one.

The film version of CABARET stunk to high heaven!

The film version of CHICAGO was better than the stage play.

I liked "Take the Money and Run" too. :) Wasn't that the one where he played cello in a marching band?

Did you ever see "Cecil B. Demented"

In it, a bunch of film school terrorists set about to blow up the filming of "Forrest Gump II: Gump Happens"

They also liberate a theatre playing "Patch Adams"

Demented Forever!

I liked Field of Dreams. My list of overrated movies would be anything by Michael Moore or Algore.

I've seen 6 of 'em.

Liked Fantasia and Forrest Gump.
Never liked Wizard of Oz.
Space Odyssey I liked in college, don't know what I'd think now...but it may have been better than Planet of the Apes, which I hated.
Gone With the Wind...don't think it was overrated, but it's not my type of movie.
Easy Rider sucks.

I agree with those who put The Patriot on the list of overrated.

Movie I like: Long Kiss Goodnight

The first movie, with the title MOULIN ROUGE, about the life and times of Toulouse Lautrec, staring Jose Ferrer, is marvelous!

The POS starring Nicole Kidman is utter garbage.

In Cecil B. Demented, each of the terrorists (aka "the sproket holes") has a director's name tattooed on their arms: William Castle, Sam Fuller, John Cassavetes, Peckinpah, Fassbinder, etc.

They kidnap a famous actress (alludes to a Julia Roberts type) and force her to star in their own film of their exploits. Its really raunchy, but funny, and a pretty scathing review of some of the crappy mass market stuff that is being released and promoted.

****Just tell me how many yards Notre Ame is going to give up to LSU this year ok?****

I seem to remember some years ago Notre Dame played Florida in the Sugar Bowl. And everyone said ND was overrated and Florida would kill them. It didn't happen. ND clobbered them. Is there anything more precious than the sounds of silenced southerners? LOL!

Sounds hilarious. I'll have to rent it. Keep thinking I'll sign up for netflix but we have Dish satellite so we get some decent movies once in a while.

Fast Times=no real anything to it

A Christmas Story=never been able to stay awake through it

Caddyshack=nothing that interesting except for Bill Murry and the Dali Lama

Blues Brothers=??? but at least it had good music and the former "bridge to nowhere" in Milwaukee. That was kind of a cool trick, falling off a bridge in Milwaukee and ending up in Chicago, I always figured a wormhole was somehow involved. Or VALIS or something.

For comedy I like things that are funny like Ghostbusters and Serial Mom.
