Is Free Republic a "Listserv?" If not, what is it then?
Sincerest thanks,
George
I've given alot of thought to it. And decided that having FR is better than living without it.
But the gems are getting damn hard to find. We are here trying to save the Republic, for cryin out loud, that means we have to spend a whole lot more time trying to find a way to work together.
I guess I agree with you assesment on second thought. Lots of 'puter saavy folks on here.....many not so much too.
Interesting.
You're right though....there are a lot of threads spouting DU type rhetoric, IMO.
Hey, Bill Gates wanted to make computers so that any idiot can use them.
We see proof that he succeeded every day!!
;=)
I also use Listservs, UGA has a huge collection. They tend to be no-nonsense and have very specific, detailed and focused subject topics.
Many are computer related, but I suppose there's one out there for growing daffodils, if you dig far enough.
Go here to find out more about Listservs.

Well, I have been rebuked on a couple of differnet levels starting with "You're a real asshole, aren't you?" on my private mail......So for the record....Is "george" a screen name that I should not question? Second, listserves predate the internet, and it's a term you will hear in archaic discussions about IBM mainframes and bitnic............ I have been corrected in any event.
Hey!! The big iron is still involved in something like 65 percent of the lifecycle of financial transactions in the US!
Well, mine isn't 65 percent, but it's up there!
I was actually contacted by a recruiter lately to do some mainframe work.
The stock symbol for the client was MSFT.
Inside joke, sort of. But totally true!!
Have you read this George?

"Man Arrested For E-mailing Threats To BWI Marshall"
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "(AP) Baltimore, MD A Woodlawn-area man was charged Wednesday with e-mailing two bomb threats to Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, police said.
No one was evacuated from the airport, and no flights were delayed as a result of the threat.
According to Maryland Transportation Authority police, George F. Spicka, 59, sent two threatening e-mails to airport officials around 7:45 a.m. Wednesday. He tried to conceal his identity by using an anonymous remailer and called himself "George Orwell.""
How about a 2007 thread?
We keep bumping it till New Years.
LOL!!
Have you seen the things the dying Republican Congress has passed in the last couple hours?
Anybody want to post an article on that?
According to the mainstream media, Free Republic is a "blog."
Not sure I'd wanna know. I'd probably cry in my beer, except I'm outa beer. Gettin ready to fix that in about ten minutes or so.
If you read some of the debates of that time period you'll find that this place is pretty tame by comparison.
I can't recall who it was but when speaking of the wife of a candidate the opponent referred to her as "a known thespian who frequently masticates in public."
Ah the good old days.

Ahhh... Ash. Don Morgan. The good ol days!
Then we can talk about if it's worse now or back when Mojo, Lucianne, and her gang were hanging around here.
