Javalina is not pork or even related to a pig.True in a sense. Javelinas are to the new world what swine are to Europe and Asia and the Hippo is to Africa.
All three groups fall into the sub-order Suiforme of the order artiodactyla. As a group, they are all about equally related to camels, deer, and giraffes.
I would not generally classify Javelinas as good eats.
The chef is here. Good eats for everyone.

My first question, upon reading this, is "who is Snyder?" Of course that was before I clicked on the article link and read that you cut out the first sentence/paragraph that explains Snyder is a road.

javelina are members of the rodent familyThat is incorrect. They are members of the Artiodactyls--the same as swine and hippopotami.

I thought the hippo was related to the horse amd the rhino was related to the pig.

"At 7:15 a.m. Wednesday, Gordon and her three Chihuahuas were attacked by a pack of javelinas..." Well there's the problem right there. She was baiting them. Everyone knows that Chihuahuas = javelina bait.
(I can never see the word Chihuahua without thinking of Les Nesman on WKRP in Cincinnati and the way he pronounced it on the air: "Chi-hoo-a-hoo-a". Makes me laugh every time!)

Then my high school biology class back in the 60's was wrong. Then again, my grade school parochial schooling told us dino's were a myth.

It was commonly thought that hippos were related to pigs. Recently DNA has proved that Hippos are related to dolphins and whales which is why they can submerge themselves in water for long periods of time.

Woah! What did I DO? What's IN this coffee?
I MEANT to say that the remark about Hillary in a fur coat was cruel and sexist and I was going to have to do somehting about it just as soon as I stopped laughing.
I guess I was laughing too hard and my computer got all upset. (And, yeah, the ankles ARE too thin to be Hillary's.)

Uh-oh. guess the President better commission the "Javelina Study Group" (JSG) to resolve this problem.
NO doubt we need to have dialogue with the javelinas.
Time to call James Baker again.

Although they look like pigs, javelina are members of the rodent family. Big 'Rats. That picture is a female, the males have great big tusks. A couple of Christmas's ago, I woke to a family of them in my carport.
No. They aren't rodents. Paccaries belong to the order Tayassuidae, hoofed mammals related to swine.
See http://tolweb.org/Tayassuidae/30341.
