Last week WWE Hall of Famer “Rowdy” Roddy Piper was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a form of cancer found in the body’s lymphatic tissue. The lymphatic system helps filter out bacteria and is important in fighting diseases. Piper was sent home early from WWE’s early-November tour of the United Kingdom and hospitalized for surgery, where doctors removed a mass at the spinal cord with an enlarged lymph node. The mass was completely removed, but the lymph node was positive for Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Piper is currently undergoing radiation therapy, which is used to treat Hodgkin’s lymphoma. It is an extremely successful procedure, so the prognosis is very good for Piper.
NRT: Hell of a note to check in for a sore back and find this out! Roddy's the man and will confront this with all he's got like he's done all his life. We're not supposed to plug here but the DVD they just put out for him is worth every cent for a guy who doesn't ever stop entertaining.

Those were just a few of Hall of Famer “Rowdy” Roddy Piper's words on Monday afternoon during a phone conversation with WWE.com, in which he repeatedly thanked WWE fans.
Piper was sent home early from WWE’s early-November tour of the United Kingdom and hospitalized. While in the hospital, he underwent a four-hour surgery, where doctors removed a mass at the spinal cord with an enlarged lymph node. The mass was completely removed, but the lymph node was positive for lymphoma.
"This is the second time wrestling, and the wrestling fans have saved my life," said an emotional Piper. "When I was 15, it took me off the streets and kept me out of jail. This time, thanks to WWE fans who voted me in for Cyber Sunday, I was able to find cancer."
Finding the cancer was just the first step in Piper's ordeal. On Thursday, the legend will begin receiving radiation for the low grade lymphoma, which will last for four weeks. Piper told WWE.com that on January 15, upon the completion of radiation treatment, he expects to walk out of the hospital with a clean bill of health.

Massive Heat On Rob Van Dam Ditching Troop Tour
There is now "tremendous heat" on Rob Van Dam for refusing to go on the annual Tribute to the Troops trip for the second time. Technically, because the WWE can't guarantee the safety of the performers in a war zone, and considering that they are independent contractors, they can't be forced to go. However, there is an unwritten rule in WWE that if you're asked to go, you go. His refusal to go on the trip explains RVD's lessened push in recent weeks. Before he refused to go on the trip, the plan was to do a slow build for a Lashley vs. RVD for the ECW title program in 2007. Plans may or may not have changed, but it wouldn't be surprising if they did.
In other news ECW version 2 just died when Paul Heyman called it quits after McMahon screwed up his latest Pay-Per-View by making a steroid-enhanced newbie from the WWE ranks (Bobby Lashley) ECW Champion. "Big Show" Paul Wight is also stepping out for repair and reconditioning after being used relentlessly on every spot asked of him for the last three years. While his thyroid giantism condition has been arrested the wear and tear of the WWE schedule, at the pace he's contributed, would have been eventually crippling or worse.
Paul Wight (the Giant; The Big Show)was always there for Vince but was never forgiven for winning a lawsuit that called for better conditions. Wight got a trailer where the bed and bath were supersized (so he wouldn't have to live out his life reenacting Andre's humiliation) but McMahon resented the loss of the suit rather than giving an inch of control to "the talent" - even when it was plainly the humanitarian course of action in a special circumstance. Kudo's to Paul Wight for giving his health and a part of his lifetime for our entertainment while eventually seeing enough is enough. Like Steve Austin, he sets a worthy example by showing that dead wrestlers only benefit the people who use them up if they don't have the forsight to see that's what's coming.

From the site: On Christmas night, the WWE will present “WWE Tribute to the Troops: Christmas in Baghdad,” which airs on USA Network Monday night at 9:00 p.m. Eastern, 8:00 p.m. Central. This television special will highlight military personnel telling their stories, interacting with WWE Superstars, and enjoying a presentation of WWE action.
As a WWE fan (Undertaker's my all time favorite) I really feel that they're not commended enough for what they do for our troops. I'll be sure to watch this Christmas show and when Piper comes back, it's gonna be one hell of a Piper's Pit. I can't wait!

Piper rehearsed that scene with the actor Keith David for four months. Yet it still looks like a spontaneously fresh fight every time.

There are probably a few more people going on the trip, but these are the names that have been revealed thus far.
