LISBON (AFP) - Oscar-winning US actress Gwyneth Paltrow feels dinner talk is far more interesting in her adopted homeland Britain than back in her native country.
"I love the English lifestyle, it's not as capitalistic as America. People don't talk about work and money, they talk about interesting things at dinner," she told "NS", the weekend magazine supplement of daily Portuguese newspaper Diario de Noticias on Saturday.
"I like living here because I don't fit into the bad side of American psychology. The British are much more intelligent and civilized than the Americans," the 34-year-old added.
Paltrow, who won a best actress Oscar for 1998's "Shakespeare in Love," lives in London with British band Coldplay's frontman Chris Martin whom she wed in 2003.
She said having US pop star Madonna, 48, who married British film director Guy Ritchie six years ago, nearby was another advantage to living in London.
"She's like an older sister. Everything I have gone through, she went through ten times worse and ten times longer. She gives me good advice about how to say no and take care of myself," said Paltrow.
But she didn't hestitate at all to participate in capitalism and enjoy its benefits. What a hypocrite.
If you're getting "advice" from Madonna, then you're on the highway to oblivion.

If they are so intelligent, why is their dentistry third world?
With talk like, this I suspect she's getting ready to run for president as a Democrat.
Miss Paltrow decries America's capitalist system, but hypocritically runs back to the States to have her baby. If you believe in British style socialism, shallow Gwyn, why didn't you use their "vaunted socialist health care system?"
The Brits are too kindly to nits like Paltrow, she obviously failed Manners 101........

With a mentor like Madonna, what else can we expect. Sad little rich desperate women searching for meaning in their materialism and self-centeredness must insult others to maintain their sense of superiority.
And Ms. Paltrow are going to change your citizenship so you can pay the sky high taxes that Brits pay? Or do you like the lower taxrates of uneducated America?
What does the life-style of upper-crust Britain, or for that matter, upper-crust America, have to do with capitalism?
Captains of industry do not, for the most part, dine with sophisticates and artistic intellectuals except at some function, where they normally end up segregated to separate parts of the room, and maintain separate conversations. The Fabian socialists, with whom Gwyneth Paltrow would seem to be naturally attracted, are not restricted to the British Isles, by any means.
She is correct in saying that talking about money - the accumulation or the lack thereof - is a taboo in British society.

How would she know? She isn't exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer. And then there's her friends ....
Well, I was trying to take an intelligent, enlightened look at what she was saying up to that point...
I think she as a very good point.
I imagine sitting down to dinner in Hollywood is just as she describes... very shallow, money-centric, idolatry.
And let it be noted that Paltrow never experienced real life. She was born in the Hollywood set.
What an utterly idiotic thing to say.
Consider that Ms. Paltrow may well be referring to her Hollywood buddies. In which case, it wouldn't be idiotic, it would be true.
Perhaps Ms. Paltrow would be happier if those filthy, ragged and bloodied rebels had lost to Lord Cornwallis.
Note to Gwynethhhhhhhhh - honey hang out where you are and please keep Madonna and all of the other wannabe snobs with you.
I can say proudly, I have not watched, nor payed for a Hollywood movie going on about ten years now.
Never again will these jerks see my money.
