The Hobbit Hole XXXII - Sweet is the sound of falling rain
The Freeper Hobbit Hole Blog ^ | December 1, 2006

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

Sunny here too but Alpha-cat keeps lurking in the dark basement with us. She can't figure out what we're doing... scraping the floor with a paint knife, painting the ceiling. But I bet she'll like the wood floor we're about to lay.

Beta-cat is doing her part by occasionally harassing the dogs, who have been caged because they're bad when we don't watch them.

She followed me around the house for a while before settling in her chair.

My finches are getting more and more yellow. I don't think washing is helping any. :)

Happiness.

Snoozing in a patch of sunshine is one of my favorite things to do, too.

It's a beautiful day here too...G'nad is out on the tractor working on the road.

We had a great day yesterday. Theboy was a wrestling fool. He pinned two, won one by points and lost one by points. It was great to watch him work so hard. After, we went to the library on post, Blockbuster to get our free ps2 game for the month, and then took the kids out for dinner. It was a nice way to spend the day.

In other news...Gunner ate my cell phone. It must have fallen out of my pocket or something when I got out of the car. Grrrrr

Well, I got my seeds in the sprouters. I'm going to do a few more flowers and a few less veggies this year. When my back got bad last year a lot of food went to waste because I couldn't get it picked and processed in time. This year I'm on track to have enough leave accumulated to have a 'use or lose' scenario so I plan on taking gorgeous sunny days off this spring to work in the garden. My team leader cracked me up because I told him about my plan and his face lit up, "That's a really good idea!"

Next weekend I think I'll start turning beds, weather permitting. 2J - last year you put radishes and turnips in early. How early did you do that? I've got buckets of radish seeds to use up. Big'ol loves them. Me? Not so much.

Gunner ate my cell phone.

I hate it when that happens. Hope everything comes out ok. :)

I finished my "start indoors" seeds today with marigolds, zinnias, and verbena.The weather's supposed to be good all week so I'll get some beds turned and hopefully I can get some peas planted.

My catnip bed is established. At least one neighbor cat has been rolling in it and it's putting out leaves.

I started with a single catnip plant. It is only because I am vigilant that I do not have a whole bed, nay a whole yard, of it. Heh.

My catnip bed is established.

Now that I think of it, that's darn clever of you. Instead of attracting beneficial insects to manage pests... you're attracting beneficial mammals. Carnivores even.

I've got two mounds in my planter box. The dirt around them is compacted with noticable amounts of fur on top. :)

I keep getting flyers for these EarthBox thingies:

Next year the Niece and the older Nephew will be old enough to plant seeds. I'm thinking about getting them one as a gifty.
