Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!
O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.
O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.
O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!
Izzit Friday?
Oh, hey, yeah, it is.
Izzit 4?
Hmmm...
*snort* Yeah, it's possessed!
GIRL! Does that mean you can Freep, guilt-free, for the next 36 hours?
Speaking of coffee...Wanna join me in a cup, 2J? We've had freezing rain all day, and it's just dreary out there!
Yep! Heh heh! They're gone! I had to log off for a bit to get them all packed up and purchase mass quantities of junk food...but they're gone now and I have the house to myself for 24 more hours...
What to do, what to do!
I'm thinking of renting a movie from Redbox. All I have from Blockbuster is a couple of Gilligan's Island disks of the first season...
http://redbox.com
Coffee sounds good...think I'll have a cup of instant Folgers.
It is Friday. It is 1700. I am home. It is good.
I'm waiting for a frikkin' Visio chart to finish drawing. Must be a bug somewhere... it's taking three minutes per page... three pages left... argh... time chart finished, code checked in, I'm ready to go.
Izzit done yet?
It got to the critical part and was wrong. And then I realized if I set the counter to 27 instead of 0, it would have started on the same page - oops! Well, it'll be there Monday.
I have a theory about microsoft office products. Do you remember the Batman movie that had Jim Carey as the Riddler? That character built a device that sucked the brain power out of people and transferred it to the Riddler. I think that's what MS Office products do - they transfer your brain power to Redmond. I can't for the life of me figure out what Gates is doing with all the brain power. I do know that I come away from an hour of power point feeling several IQ points dumber. Ugh!
Another observation about .ppt phenomenology. So I'm putting a briefing together that includes top-level discussions of some work other people are doing. I'm summarizing and tying it all together. So I take slides those other folks did and put them in my presentation ... only I changed the color. Didn't change any text, didn't change any meaning... just the color. Oh and I changed some squares to ovals. Then I asked the original authors to review the relevant parts of my briefing. OMG! They wrote back huge opuses about how much incorrect and misleading information was on my slides. I had to call them up and laugh and say, "Whatever you say, *you* wrote those slides!"
It reminds me very much of teaching. Physics and Chemistry are all word problems - the crazy thing is that you can change a single word but keep the essential problem the same and students freak out. ie, the classic "ladder leaning against a wall" problem from physics. You're supposed to calculate the force exerted on the ground and on the wall. Change the ladder to a board and holey moley and it's a whole new problem that no one knows how to solve.
Powerpoint is the bane of life. It is pure evil.
This Visio stuff isn't too bad because I'm generating it programatically from a database of railroad track. It's been haunting my dreams all week but is Pretty Darn Cool, actually, and I designed the implementation so it's fun.
Are we movin' soon? Or should I plan on cuttin' the grass tomorrow?
In other news. It's confirmed. Jr. ~does~ have the norovirus.
Oh - I suppose we should, but it just seems like so much work :~)
What is the norovirus?
Yeah I know. I can't keep up these days.
You haven't heard of it out there? It's been particularly bad. There are public facilities - hotels, hospitals, schools, jails that are closed or on lockdown because of how bad it is.
Even though Jr. is some better, we had to send him to the doctor because the schools/county want to track the cases.
Once it's diagnosed they are asking parents to keep kids home ~at least~ three days.
This has been lingering on with Jr. for about a week now. Tuesday night was the worst. I'll spare you most of the details but wife and I were up in the middle of the night unclogging toilets and disinfecting bathrooms.
Yuck... no, I haven't heard it by name, out here, or I haven't paid enough attention.
Sounds just lovely. :~\
Oh, it's delightful.
We have one of those RedBox locations at our regular grocery store! Haven't needed to use it yet.
