The Hobbit Hole XXXII - Sweet is the sound of falling rain
The Freeper Hobbit Hole Blog ^ | December 1, 2006

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

I don't know if we need a generator. Except that if we don't have power, we don't eat. Otherwise we can handle things... might have to actually talk to each other and stuff and it's not that cold...

Ack! Yeah, east of Seattle is what I meant, actually!

Nothing wrong with the roads down here, fortunately.

Though I suppose even that doesn't mean safety. Last night on my way home I *almost* had one of my nightmares come true - the car right in front of me died suddenly, in the middle lane where we couldn't get around him easily because traffic in the other two lanes was cruising so fast it was hard to get in. Actually my true nightmare is that I'll be the one in the car that dies, but if I'd hit him, as could easily have happened, I'd have been in the same boat.

And then he started rolling backwards as I started to go around him, so I thought he might well hit me.. Gah! My heart was going a million miles an hour.

Boy.... you and 2J in the same car would be an event to behold :~)

If the car died suddenly in the fastest lane of a big bridge, I think we'd both just keel over dead. ;-)

Honestly, for me, it's still a form of claustrophobia, I think. I don't like being *anywhere* where I don't feel like I can get out, which is why interstates freak me out a little, especially when there's traffic on both sides.

Claustrophobia makes me drive very fast in the left-hand lane.

Do you have a fireplace? OB and I got really good at grilling sandwiches over the coals and heating up soups and stews in an old coffee pot. Of course, waking up all night to keep the fireplace fed was no fun, but at least we were warm.

Nah, Just a fake one that uses electricity. There is a cast iron stove but that is in the detached garage and is therefor useless.

I'm afraid I'll miss something that a "real" English teacher will catch.

Check out either the 'Writing Strands' or the 'Institute for Excellence in Writing' Curricula. Both have guidelines for grading the student's writing.

OK, I'm familiar with Danny. I've only seen one full CSI NY episode, and that was the pilot that segued from a CSI Miami episode. It was pretty brutal.

The three CSI shows seem to each have their own focus. Las Vegas is flashy, but somewhat more tied to the 'forensics'. CSI Miami is more emotional because Horatio seems very soft hearted for innocent folks who are caught in the 'crossfire'. Then CSI NY seems much more gritty and brutal, as befits the city, I guess. I haven't gotten the hang of when CSI Miami and NY are on in their regular time slots. I've mostly seen CSI Miami in the afternoons in syndication. I know Las Vegas is on Thursdays. We DVR that, and then Shark right after it.

The thing about racing people is they all seem to get up and get started before the crack of dawn.

Don't y'all do that, too?

In related news, Verizon marked our neighborhood yesterday for the installation of fiber optic cable. I'm switching the moment it's available.

We bugged our town cable company for three years, before we got service to the house. They announced they were going to provide cable internet, then messed around for a couple of years. We started calling, asking when it was going to be available. We watched their progress as they hung the cables down the main road in back of our house. It was so exciting! As soon as we saw the wires at the bottom of our street, we started calling again. *snort* I think we were the first street to get it, likely so they'd get us off their backs!

We love it though, cause it's fast! Even when we had seven computers going once, with four of them doing World of Warcraft, there wasn't a slowdown in service. KEWL!

Comcast is great...when it works.

But it's ridiculously spendy. Competition from Verizon will be good.

I agree with your assessment of the CSI's. NY is my favorite, LV is second, Miami is my least favorite, but I still like it...I rarely miss an episode of any of them.

When Danny and Lindsay grabbed each other in the episode where you figured out something was happening between the two, Steve and I just gasped and looked at each other like "Can you believe it???" LOL!! Kinda funny. (I think Steve might've just been playing along with me...which is funnier.)

You can watch last night's episode online at

http://www.cbs.com/primetime/csi_ny

I'm watching it again...although with it being on dialup, it buffers every few seconds...grrrr!

I wonder if I should go get a generator...

It WOULD be better to have it when you need it, rather than going out later, and possibly not finding one. ;o)
