The Hobbit Hole XXXII - Sweet is the sound of falling rain
The Freeper Hobbit Hole Blog ^ | December 1, 2006

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

I think I know the answer to this question, but I'll ask anyway.

We have an HP Officejet multifunction printer. It's about three years old. Last time we tried to change the color cartridge, it would no longer print in color. For whatever reason, the cartridge will not sit properly in the slot.

We can print from the computer in black and white. But we can't use the photocopy function. We haven't used the fax in years, and actually took our second phone line out once we went to Comcast for the Internet.

Computer guru friend at church says it's time for a new printer, that it wouldn't be feasible to fix it.

I'm inclined to agree.

Thoughts?

I think it read just fine. It certainly got across your experience and what you want to do.

Oh my stars...CSI NY was great tonight...

Danny and Montana came *this close* to finally kissing each other!

Ugh! I'm awash in the romance of it all! I really love that show!

Heh heh!

Just had some awfully run on sentences, is all.

I love a good comma, you can add a comma, and another, and pretty much just keep talking, and talking, and talking. ;~)

We are limited in what we know in that the phone number on the ad led to the secretary of a construction company the trainer also owns, and she didn't know a lot... didn't know if there are 10 or 100 horses. She seemed to think they wanted grooms, and people that could fix fence. Least that's what she knew enough to mention.

My college English professor, as well as the English teacher to whom I am married, do not care for an excessive use of commas.

Any chance there's something wrong with the color cartridge, and that's why it isn't seating right? And have you tried cleaning the print heads and running a color calibration page? Should be a button combination that does that, or you can use the software that came with it.

Otherwise, yeah, I'd agree with the guy from church. It's probably not cost-efficient to try to fix it.

When dad used to proof read my stuff, he'd read it and say "take out half the commas" But he does the same thing when he writes.

Well, I'm tired tonight... was up too late last night, and it feels like it :~\

Rosie... we won't watch LOST tonight... DVR should catch it, we can watch it tomorrow if you want :~)

Sounds good. I also obtained cookies already, just in case. ;-)

Dashes are my favorite overused punctuation mark. I use 'em a lot more than I should when writing stories and that.

I think the letter is fine. It is extremely readable, and sets out your experience without being pretentious. Wishing you both the best of luck on getting the gig. LSA

Computer guru friend at church says it's time for a new printer, that it wouldn't be feasible to fix it.

That's a very reasonable opinion. Three years old for an inkjet device is ancient.

Was the cartridge genuine HP, or some third-party? Inkjet manufacturers have a nasty habit of putting features in the cartridge that cause degraded operations with third-party cartridges.

DANG! I forgot CSI NY was on! OK, just who are Danny and Montana?

Joseph and I watched Monster House tonight. Kind of a strange movie; not that particularly funny, but kind of poignant. Oddly, the funniest scene in all the trailers I saw wasn't even IN the movie!

The Queen is on at the beer and burgers theater this coming week. SirKit and I want to go see it! I heard that Helen Mirren was just outstanding in it. She did win the Oscar for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth.

Joseph wants us all to go see Wild Hogs, too. Don't know if we'll do that this week. Maybe next week, instead. He and I went to a matinee to see Ghost Rider last week. It was kinda fun!

Wow! Sounds like a fun job...hope you two get it.

Teaching writing is hard. In a few years, I'm gonna want to find a place that will grade thegirl's writing. I'm afraid I'll miss something that a "real" English teacher will catch.

It was an HP cartridge. Althought I think over the life of the printer we've probably used other brands.

It's not that it won't print. It won't "fit" so that the printer keeps saying "check cartridge."

Commas are nice; they are not as nice as the king of punctuation, the semicolon. I love semicolons; I use too many of them in my writing. They can often be used where you would try to stick a comma, transforming a run on sentence into a grammatically correct, if somewhat ornate sounding sentence; I use them more than any other mark other than the period, I think.

Also I use them in most of my programming so that makes them even cooler.

Oh, it was great...

Danny and Lindsay are two csi's. Danny's been there since the start (secretly a former gang member), Lindsay came in later and is a country girl from Montana. Danny calls her Montana.

There didn't seem to be *anything* between them until Lindsay almost got killed and Danny saved her. All of a sudden you just knew...by the way they held on to each other...that something was going on.

But of course they're dancing around it. "It's complicated." She went to Montana and left him a note (signed it "Montana" which was a thing he teased her with when she first came...didn't take her seriously.) Anyway, he showed up in Montana where she was testifying about something in her past. Afterward, he is walking out with her...takes her hand...and she stops him and *just starts* to pull him toward her when all these cameras start flashing at her and they pull apart.

Still no kiss!

Thanks all, on the barn job... It might be neat... it might be more hours than we want, but who knows? We'll know if they call us.

The thing about racing people is they all seem to get up and get started before the crack of dawn.

Was just about to post that. Bit of a slushy wonderland, though, from the look of it.
