The Hobbit Hole XXXII - Sweet is the sound of falling rain
The Freeper Hobbit Hole Blog ^ | December 1, 2006

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

It'd take so much humidity in the air to do anything to electronics, you'd be uncomfortable. Talon and I bought a superstrength humidifier last week. It took the house from bone dry to comfortable. It's amazing what a difference that makes. I tend to nosebleeds in the winter because of dryness and my hands chap but that's all better now.

Steve's from Northern Minnesota and I think he could relate to it in some way, which is an extremely disquieting thought to me.

Well, it WAS about hockey, after all.

I've only seen parts of the movie, but wouldn't go out of my way to see it again. We LOVED Batman Begins, but then we're BIG Christian Bale fans here. Another one of his that is terrific is Equilibrium. I don't think it would be that good for the boys until they're older, but you and Steve might like it! Sean Bean is in it too, for a short time.

Have your boys seen Reign of Fire? it's an exciting movie about modern day dragons! Series eye candy, that movie is. Gots Christian Bale, Gerard Butler AND Matthew MacConaughey!

The 'confort' zone for people is around 50%, about 40-60%.
For humidity to hurt electronics it either has to cause condensation which is very unlikely since electronics are usually warmer than the room, or it takes much higher than 60% humidity. Realistily a humidifier has a hard time getting a room much higher than that humidity

You walk in their room and feel it immediately.

Good. I'm glad I got it.

Humidity is never something we'd have to add to around here, but my hands still get dry :~)

Mmmm! I'm enjoying some cold chicken the Walmart deli and a can of collard greens!

Honestly, why I would ever want to waste my time roasting a chicken when Walmart does it so well??? I mean, for less than five bucks! And really, there's only so much you can do to dress up a roasted chicken!

The only chicken I'll probably ever roast again is my home-grown ones. I don't see buying a uncooked chicken from the store again and bringing it home and roasting it when I can walk out with one already done!

I'm just sayin' is all....

Our grocery store has rotisserie chickens that are vey good. They also have, in their deli, fried chicken, popcorn chicken, teriyaki wings, all kinds of stuff like that! It's great, when I'm in a hurry.

I made some slow-cooker pulled pork the other day; it was terrific! I used a packet of McCormick slow-cooker seasoning, and added some brown sugar, and some worcestershire sauce. WOW! Makes great sammiches. Makes lots of leftovers, or you can freeze the extra for later. Take advantage of any sale you can find on a boneless pork roast and use that. You could probably use a beef roast instead, but the pork is probably better.

We get the roasted chicken from Sam's Club when we're there.

I'm stopping to get fried chicken on the way home. The local grocery chain here does it quite well. Mrs. brags about the fact that she hasn't fried chicken since we moved to Richmond (in 1994).

That sounds great!

I love pulled pork!

I also love smoked bologna, which astounds Steve for some reason.

Sam's makes the best pizza in their snack bar!!

I have their phone number programmed into my cell phone. It takes about 5 minutes for them to make the pizza, so when I'm about 5 minutes away, I call and tell them to get it ready!

A whole large "restaurant style" pizza for about $8.

I gotta say, having a tiny bit of expendable income is sure swell.

I love this Blockbuster Total Access! I get two movies at a time, just like I did with Netflix, except when I finish with them, I just take them to the Blockbuster store and they 1. file them as "returned" and the next two movies in my Q get sent and 2. let me have two more movies in exchange for the ones I'm returning. Furthermore, you get a coupon for an Xbox game once a month!

I made a roasted chicken Sunday. They'd had them on sale for 60 cents a pound at HyVee so I got one. And then we ended up having a couple guys over through lunchtime. I threw the chicken in the oven, ignored it while visiting, and then served a super easy but impressive little lunch!

You know you can stick 'em in the oven slap frozen? Heh heh!! Takes a while and it cooks with the gibblets in place, but it's still good!
