Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!
O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.
O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.
O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!
heh, wonder if the admiting nurse was the inspiration for 'Nurse Ratchet'. Nothing quite like being triaged in an ER to dry-dock category.
Are they home now? Is someone going to take them a meal?
Poor folks...but yeah...that wasn't good thinking...
Whoa, you wouldn't believe the wind here!! I still can hardly believe the winds in this state, after being here almost 10 years! They still amaze me.
I use a Swiffer too. Afterward, I wash the wet pad and lay it on the counter to dry. Then I fold it back up and put it on the bottom of the stack in the box of other wet pads.
I'm so chinchy!
Also, you know how the pole (on the basic Swiffer) has three connections, not including the handle and the pad attaching base? I only put two connections together and it makes it just the right size for Joshua!
Well, I could sortof be convinced of her need to see it... but I resented it because it hurt a lot for her to undo the support we'd made if she wasn't prepared to provide a splint, or something, after she'd seen it. She didn't give us anything! We waited more than an hour with me just sortof having to hold it with my other hand. We didn't want to re-wrap it, because I certainly didn't want to have to go through the unwrapping again before x-ray.
I didn't know you could wash 'em, but I will do that now. I threw out the fluffy Swifters, but I will get more if I don't have to throw them out. I buy generic Swifter pads at Walgreens, they are quite a bit cheaper! LSA
I would've raised nine kinds of hell...
But I'm pretty sure it's because I'm a nurse. Most "lay" folks probably wouldn't. They trust the "people that know best" ...I guess they kinda have to.
I told you about the time Matthew got bit by Terra and I had show-down with the doctor in the ER? Heh heh. Admittedly, most parents would've done what he said (leave), but I wasn't most people. I was an RN and I was absolutely calm. He had said one parent could stay "in the room" with Matthew while they stitched up his face and Steve was going to but then he fainted. So while he was technically "in the room" he was useless and the doc said I couldn't stay because Steve was still in the room. I told the nurse to grab Steve by the arm and drag him into the corner, then I turned to the doctor and very calmly said "I'm staying.' The doc said "I decide who's staying." and I replied "I decide whether or not we stay here or leave and go to St. John's." (another hospital) "But I'd rather you did this, so let's just do it." (In that last sentence, I kinda stroked his ego...I did "know" him after all...I worked with him!)
I was very calm, but looked him square in the eyes.
He then proceeded to do a great job of stitching Matthew up!
Glad your neighbor made in home safely. That late afternoon snowstorm was a real surprise, coming in when it did. We have to go run errands, wish us luck! LSA
Well, the only pads that I know you can wash are the Pledge brand dusting pads, and the Swiffer brand wet and dry clothes. Your mileage may vary with the other brands.
I just wash them in the washer then let them air dry. Then I just fold up the mopping pad and put it under the wet stack.
Now, the solution in the package will probably dry up, but you can buy a bottle of solution that attaches to the fancier versions of the Swiffer. I suspect it's the same solution and you can just replenish the solution in the package now and then, I would imagine!
That's my plan, anyway.
Yeah, it had just barely started when I left werk. The highway was down to tire tracks when I decided to take the Blue Valley parkway, where - at the first light - someone had already been rear-ended and my anti-locks kicked in when I braked (gently, of course.) From there it was slow going and low visibility, but I made it okay.
Oh, and neither the hospital nor the doctor ever sent me a bill.
I worked there when we first moved to Oklahoma. Steve didn't even have a job yet and I was working full time and he was (supposed to be) watching Matthew while I worked.
Steve and the boys are at the regional pinewood derby at TCDTS.
We got an inch of snow here. We have our anime convention staff meeting this afternoon down in Iowa City and keep getting calls from people saying the snow in Illinois or north Iowa is too bad, they can't make it. Heh...
Was it in Iowa those cars got covered in ice by a broken water main?
Man that wouldn't be good!!!
I didn't hear about that... so I don't know... a lot of the people at this meeting come from Illinois, Nebraska, Kansas and Minnesota, so bad weather can really decimate things. Our friend Pchan comes from Indiana and he got more than halfway here and decided to turn around. :-(
Oh, and I use the eraser end of a pencil to push the pads into the holes on the Swiffer...does a nice tidy job and doesn't hurt my thumb!
Well, nobody wanted to eat it, and it wilted and got rather brown and soggy. I hadn't bothered to climb back in there and clean it up, I just left it there. Now it's very definitely growing! :~)
(Just in taking a break from busting ice off the drive. Figure I ought to FReep while I can still type.... before all my muscles seize up, that is.)
I didn't know you could root celery :~)
Hmmmm.....there's an idea. Now I know what to do with the celery in the fridge.
Try it!
