The Hobbit Hole XXXII - Sweet is the sound of falling rain
The Freeper Hobbit Hole Blog ^ | December 1, 2006

Posted on 12/01/2006 12:55:15 PM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

Here's hopin' the orthopedic doc is right - that's a much better scenario, no?

Though a bad sprain isn't any fun, either. How's Jr. handling all this? Is he able to function OK with the bad wrist?

We went to most of the neighbors, but she had to be hold up somewhere...she looks too good.

Don't forget, there are lots of little critters in the woods on which she could feed nicely. Glad she's back home, though.

We let him stay home yesterday just because of the pain. And I didn't bother sending him on today because he would just have been there for percussion ensemble and a pep rally.

He's doing okay. Driving will be tricky. His car is an automatic but the gear shift is in the floor. He's not sure he can do it.

I may let him drive the truck until he's strong enough to deal with it.

I still need half of my W2s for the year so we can do ours. I should email mom, I bet they got sent there.

Yep.

See, I'm so bad at math that I don't dare do it myself. So we have them done. An organization here in Tulsa does it for free if your income is below a certain level and ours is, so I always have them do it. In the years before I always went to a senior citizen center (every community here in OK seems to have one) and had it done. But this year the center isn't doing it and I have to drive to a less than safe part of town.

Still, it's worth it and they file it electronically and I usually get our refund back within a couple of weeks, deposited directly into our checking account.

That IS good news. Did he give Jr. a wrist brace to wear?

Yeah. And that's obviously better than a cast.

Heh...here's a funny story...

When you go to get your taxes done with the volunteers, you can either just walk in or make an appointment. Of course, if you make an appointment, you get to walk past anyone who might have walked in. I did make an appointment one year. So I went to the senior center (which, by virtue of where it just happened to be taking place) was full of elderly walk-in folks. When they called my name for my appointment, I passed up a bunch of these old folks (mostly women).

They were FURIOUS!! Audibly complaining about how disrespectful I was not letting the elderly go first!!

I swear, I never made an appointment again! Those elderly folks are so pleasant to sit there and visit with...no need to hack them off! Heh heh!

Hard to do percussion with a busted up wrist, I'd think.

Well...here's hoping it heals fast!

My mother, who hooked me on liverwurst, used to go to a restaurant where they served it in sandwiches with lettuce and raw onion. That never appealed to me ...

My mother would put it in my lunchbox ... no one ever wanted to swap lunches with me ...

Could be ... we both like a lot of the same things ...!

I'm gonna make a rice custard today ... making a big pot of rice now. Half will go to wiener-rice pan casserole, half to the rice custard.

Didn't you say you had Cherokee ancestry? I do too. Some of my family originates from the Muskogee and Pawnee areas.

So the idea might not be as farfetched as some might think!

I like mine with tomato and cream cheese best of all, but the avocado was good in a pinch.

I'm re-doing my 72 hour kit. I've used some things out of it and need to re-stock my inventory.

My dad loves liverwurst. Used to buy those big ol' liverwurst logs. I can eat it, but it's not exactly something I crave...

He likes Limburger cheese, too. I can't get past the smell!

I don't think I've ever had Limberger cheese.

Hmmmm

Well, I'm off. Going to Walmart and then to get the ol' taxes done.
