The Hobbit Hole XXXII - Sweet is the sound of falling rain
The Freeper Hobbit Hole Blog ^ | December 1, 2006

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

I want a personal cold fusion reactor.

Was that you? We did get the neatest little ornament, a "First Christmas" with one of our wedding photos in it. We couldn't figure out who it might have come from, there was no clue with the wrapping and stuff.

It's hanging on the tree. Which is still in the living room. I suppose if the Hobbit Hole hasn't put away its Christmas decor I don't need to feel bad either.

Glad you like it...there was no place to put a message from us when we ordered it (at least not one that I could see)...I didn't want to give it away beforehand and then we got this big ice and snow storm. We took our Christmas stuff down a few weeks ago, it's my least favorite thing about Christmas.

Well, thank you! It was so thoughtful. I really liked it and I'm glad we know now where it came from!

Between that and Corin's little South Park character ornaments we've got a nice start on our ornament collection.

You can use Candelmas Day (Feb. 2, I believe) as a Christmas Season cut off! ;o) Heh. When I was in the hospital, on Feb. 4th, having Joseph, our Christmas wreath was still on the door. But then, I've always used Christmas wreaths that are not so seasonal that they can't stretch all winter. I always kept the lights on the bushes out front until well into the Spring, simply because I didn't want to have to trudge out into the snow taking them off! I didn't put any lights out there this year. The only lights are on the wreath itself.

*whimper*

Gotta go in early again. Not a lot, but enough that *again* I can't grab breakfast and make coffee here.

Heh...I thought about pointing that out yesterday.

Speaking of the thread heading and all...seems like that title was a jinx. We get it up, and almost immediately everyone starts getting record breaking weather. Eek! What's gonna happen when the brook starts in? Tsunami?

Well FWIW, ~we~ haven't been having record breaking weather.

'Course I shouldn't say things like that. Wife and I are heading to Kentucky this afternoon. We'll stop at my mom's for the night. Will be back home late Saturday.

I'll check in as I can.

Have fun!

We haven't been having reocrd breaking weather either. A bit of snow, nothing more than is fun and pretty. Cold, but not that cold. No ice or monsoons.

Have y'all seen the latest long-range weather forecast?

They're predicting another arctic blast, this one from the northeast, sometime between January 28th and February 4th --- very cold, lingering for several days. That, in itself, isn't good. However, one of our weather weenies says that the "conveyor belt" of moisture --- the low in Northern Mexico that caused the snow and ice storms --- will still be running during this chill. (It's running now ... we're getting rain here in Austin today.)

I would suggest that we all examine our hunkering-down plans, add what we learned from the last blast, and adjust as necessary.

I plan to add a good brandy and a nice wine to our liquor collection, and something to feed the fireplace. Also, a stuffed wiener dog to stuff under the doors ... our back door lets in a heckuva chill!

When our weather comes from the northeast, it's typically bad ...

Heh heh! I stuffed towels under my doors.

Do you have natural gas? If so, make sure you have a CO detector, even if your unit is in good repair! Also, fireplaces can put off CO. When you start sealing drafts, you also seal in bad stuff!

I hope you don't get it bad again... heck, I hope we haven't been too premature in cleaning up the yard.

BTW, Rose, we just made a donation to the LCS gift, sorry I didn't do that yesterday!
