The Hobbit Hole XXXII - Sweet is the sound of falling rain
The Freeper Hobbit Hole Blog ^ | December 1, 2006

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

Groomsmen were brothers or married. No luck there.

And frankly, his crowd ain't my crowd. They mostly seem to be of the variety that still think getting drunk is a talent.

We went and got Cisco.... Poor pitiful creature ;~). Then he didn't even really want in, he wanted the dogs to come out and play. Anyhow... For good or ill, he's here again :~)

How were the cats? We never went over there, so they may have been a little lonely after a long weekend :~)

Glad you're all good, 2J! No word from g'nad yet? Are we assuming they lost power?

Ben and Anne's was very simple - the food was more or less potluck brought by family, her sister-in-law made the cake, the reception was just at the church hall, the flowers were put together by friends...

Both were nice, but I admit, on the whole, I prefer the simpler one. It was more comfortable. So is her family, really.

It doesn't take skill.

Seriously, there's just something very unappealing about uberintellectual perpetual adolescents. To me, anyhow.

OK, so I'm being negative, but...ungh.

I guess.

Seriously, hanging out with people who spend alllll their time a) recounting party stories and b) trying to one-up one another with how smart and philosophical they are is so mentally exhausting that I was on edge the whole time.

There has to be just one Catholic guy who is more easy-going and comfortable than that, doesn't there?

A lot of them reminded me of very bratty but precocious kids.

On the other hand, I did get to play with some super cute babies and little kids. And hang out with family, which was good.

Is that brother a little on the intellectual side? I ferget what it is he's doing in The Land Sense Forgot anyway. Don't worry, give those folks a year or two of payroll deductions and they'll mostly shape up.

Heh, I'm glad that apparently my little sister's beau is of the sensible sort. She thinks he's not a geek but he's an engineering student so I think she just doesn't realize it yet. :-) Middle sister is too fixated on grad school to have any guy prospects yet and the bothers are too young... though the oldest bother has a hopeless crush on a girl who thinks of him as a "good friend".

Sheesh. Little siblings grow up fast, don't they?

I like men who know how to make things work ...

People are all out of their element and uncomfortable at weddings, they're all probably better at home. It's OK - I guess we didn't expect you'd actually bring someone home with you, but we'll keep trying :~)

Good Afternoon - winterweatherwatch update. Haven't been able to make contact with theridge - land line or cell. Trunk busy signal and some sounds like a fax line, so..

LSA and I just finished working on our ice sculpture in the driveway. The tarps worked like great (for the windshield and doors) ice was ranged from a quarter to a half inch thick on the rest of the windows and anything not covered by the tarps, so much better than expected.

Yellowface is out now - the snow on the icebase is actually quite nice looking. Gypsygirl will get a short walk today, she's feeling neglected but is willing to overlook it temporarily if she gets a rawhide treat.

Report from the southern marches ...

It's icy out there! And cold ... right now my WeatherBug is reporting 27.5 degrees, down from 32 degrees this morning at 6am, and still falling. No rain right now, but it's supposed to crank back up later this evening, when the temps are around 25 degrees. That likely means snow.

Not much to take pictures of, gentlebeings ... a little ice on the balcony, a little ice under the trees and in the parking lot. No dramatic icy trees ...

And there were some really nice folks there, too...it's just that the loudmouths kinda stood out. And it was, in general, a younger crowd. Still at that obnoxious stage where they think they know everything. ;-)

There were some other folks that I talked to a bit, but distances make for not much happening, ya know? And you don't get to know someone in a five minute mingling kind of conversation at a reception. The only people we spent a lot of time with were family and a few others, the only one near my age being a guy five years younger who's planning to start at seminary in a short while. Not an option...

Were all the pseudo-intellectuals male?

It may have just been males interacting with one another in a strange environment.

Men are odd ...

Hey, I met my husband in Minnesota, and I've never been to Minnesota. You got to know me at a distance, well enough to move out here and for not as fun a reason.

I understand though really, just giving you a hard time. I'd have been focused on family too, been awhile since you've seen some of them. Did you get to see anything touristy at all?

Hehehe, me too. Especially since my engineer is good with his hands, too.

I mean, the basement project is going to be awesome once we're done, which is going to be pretty soon I think.
