The Hobbit Hole XXXII - Sweet is the sound of falling rain
The Freeper Hobbit Hole Blog ^ | December 1, 2006

Posted on 12/01/2006 12:55:15 PM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

Yup, and I think maybe we missed a bullet! The radar map shows that mess going directly east, and the majority missing us (and hitting g'nad).

I'm not a weather weenie, but as I understand it, if you have warm, wet air in place, and you get a mass of cold air move in (as we did yesterday) the cold air forces the warm air up and over it. The mixing causes thunderstorms to form, but as the rain falls through the cold layer of air close to the ground it freezes, landing as sleet or hail. So, you have thunderstorms with sleet, or *thundersleet*.

I just think the name sounds cool...

Sounds like a good name for a race horse.

Yeah, it does actually.

Could be easy to mispronounce, though.

Mrsnad, let's hope you keep your power flowing smoothly though the lines.
Glad to hear Bear and Hair have the recording covered; we've got a rabbit ears on the TV, so we're often dealing with highly variable reception in inclement weather, cable is likely more reliable for quality reception.
It's kind of a wintery mix, sleet and freezing drizzle with a bit of freezing rain.

Good luck you guys. Ice storms make beautiful pictures and nasty realities.

We've got a bit of snow here and they're saying 2-4 inches tonight but no freezing rain nonsense.

Tweek has found her perfect camouflage :~)

The internet was no help in finding the artist that does those "spot the 51 pintos in among the rocks and snow" pictures.

We've had 'thundersnow' before. It was snowing, then there was this flash behind the clouds. I immediately thought, "lightning", but immediately after that said "no way, it's snowing!", just after that I heard the rumbling of thunder. Was strange, to say the least!

We had thundersleet last night!

Incredible pictures, g'nad. They are beautiful...I thought my neighborhood had a Narnia feel...right down to my lightpost out front.

We're in our fourth and final wave, hopefully. It's not much, but the wind is going to kick up after it goes through. That may cause some problems, but we've done pretty good so far, I'm optimistic.

I have a whole list of "Things I need to have on hand *next time".

I know the artist you speak of, but I'm blanking on her name too.

Hey - that's pretty cool! Looks more like a fire station than a hobbit hole, but I guess the most important thing is feel. Was it a pleasant place?

Alas, time (and the neighborhood) were not on our side. We had to get to Johnson Space Center on the other side of Houston in less than 2 hours.

omigosh, omigosh, omigosh...it's going to be a long day...

I'm not following the live thread, but the only comment I have for tonight is that when Jack said Audrey and Kim shouldn't know anything about what was happening I started wondering how many episodes it would be before they show up to annoy us...

So, there's that. :-)
