The Hobbit Hole XXXII - Sweet is the sound of falling rain
The Freeper Hobbit Hole Blog ^ | December 1, 2006

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

ROTFL! We just finished watching Snakes on a Plane. What a hoot! Clare described it as a 'B' movie that made 'A' status by virtue of Internet chatter about it. It's still a 'B' movie, but it was fun to watch. Not for the kiddies, that's for sure; it deserved it's R rating.

Actually Clare hasn't even seen it. We didn't get it until this morning after I'd taken her to the airport. I think maybe it wouldn't be the best thing for them to watch at school. Heh. We'll have to get it again when she comes home next.

the maple in our front yard has seen better days...

our birch is hatin' it...

it's gotten werse since these photos... the mulberry tree in the front yard has lost two large limbs...

I was just standing out on the porch... the silence was broken about every 30 seconds by the sound of trees snapping out in the timber...

already cleared three trees off'n the lane... no doubt there will be more tomorrow...

What will sound even stranger, when it warms up, is the ice coming loose from the branches and hitting the frozen ground in little tube shapes.

Heh, where better for you to watch crappy movies than at college? You should let her corrupt a few of her nice schoolmates. ;-)

She's already doing that with Anime, Firefly, and Dungeons and Dragons. ;o)

I'm surfing while waiting for our big ice storm to hit around dawn. I found some photos at military.com. This is one of Saddam's MP5SD. He sure had a thing for gold plating. Maybe there was an Iraqi TV show, "Pimp My Piece".

LOL! That would be an interesting concept!

I love that series of VW commercials from last year about "un-pimping the auto", with the wonderful Peter Stormare as the German auto technician.

Good Morning, sip, winterweatherwatch check in. Tarps on windshield still in place; Gypsygirl did a bit of slipping and sliding; the whiteness is 99 ice pellets and sleet accumulation, 1 percent snow. Sip...

Good morning, cold folk!

Well, we got 4.83 inches of rain total yesterday. When I say "we," I mean the Austin Fire Department station about 0.4miles away. Some places in South Austin got almost 7 inches ... I figure we were luckier.

It didn't freeze here overnight, though it did some 15-20 miles north of here. It got down to 34º last night, and is 34º now; it's forecast to reach 40º today. However, it's supposed to freeze tonight, and thunderstorms are forecast during the freezing period. good thing!

24 starts tonight! I think that deserves meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and green bean casserole ... I might even manage a dessert or two.

The winter weather warning lasts until noon Monday, but now the weather-weenies have added Tuesday to their prognostications ... ice on Monday, snow on Tuesday.

If it happens, I'll get you pictures!
