The Hobbit Hole XXXII - Sweet is the sound of falling rain
The Freeper Hobbit Hole Blog ^ | December 1, 2006

Posted on 12/01/2006 12:55:15 PM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

I made it. Did get a window - and it was very pretty flying weather. I was glad I stayed in Puyallup the night before, though - the roads were pretty icy and it would have been scary trying to drive up in a hurry.

Been pretty stressful so far, but I guess we knew it would be. Lots of standing in the middle of a bunch of people who are all talking about shared experiences that don't make any sense unless you were there. And I'm too old to be part of one group and too young to mix with parents...or so it feels. I guess it's a city folk versus not kind of thing, too. I'm not and never have been a party gal, either. Oh well.

And there may not be any sightseeing time at all...today would have been the day to do stuff, and it was arranged that we meet ANSWER grandmother (the communist one, that is) for lunch. I realize we don't get many opportunities to see her or she us...I'm just kinda disappointed, that's all.

Is I bitter or what? ;-) On the plus side, da niece was a perfect angel on the trip and kept us all entertained, the motel is simple but nice, we had good food last night, and we get pizza for lunch, probably. Mmmm...pizza.

Oh, gee whiz...

No...sat between the window and my brother. And I didn't see any nice young Catholic doctors out the window...

hope they take the right picture this time, the last one shows this grizzled old phart instead of me.

DANG! I hate when that happens! ;o)

I bet they think you're the greatest! My hens always thought that of me when I gave 'em warm oatmeal.

I could tell they did and I don't care what anyone says.

:-)

Well, you did the right thing getting out...we're all getting ready for the storm. Still, I wish I coulda got to see you. If you ever get the opportunity, keep me in mind. Even if it's just meeting in the airport. I could bring the milk with me!

It's only 33 here now.

Ah - well, too bad about the lack of sight-seeing time, at least try to take a cab ride down to the waterfront, and ride a streetcar this afternoon!

Your pooch is just fine, sleepin' on the couch, taking some runs outside, trying to get the other dogs to play with him, the usual :~)

We just had to run more hot water out from the house to pour on their frozen water trough, but they didn't seem eager for it. It's a challenge getting them to drink enough when it's this cold. They can colic.

Make sure you buy some sourdough bread while you're there!

City folks are just weird. Nice, often, but weird... we were visiting some friends over Thanksgiving who live in Chicago and it was just odd how even conversative types get funny when they live in a city. Like thinking that living "off the grid" is A. really difficult and B. really noble.

Wouldn't you figure?? I have all kinds of things planned for the next few days...Steve's graduation banquet is tonight...he got two free tickets and they were normally fifty bucks a piece and it's at the Renaissance Hotel (vey fancy). A friend's son was going to watch the boys...our first time to EVER get a babysitter...now the weather is going bad and I'm not sure if we'll get to go. Then, the actual commencement is tomorrow and Steve was going to walk in that as faculty. (Get a bit of use from that cap and gown we shelled out all that money on! Heh heh!)

Also, my VW club meeting is tomorrow and I love going to that...I bet it's cancelled. And Steve has that interview on Monday in Enid (because it's MLK Day and he has that day off) and that might have to be cancelled and that's inconvenient!

Just the thought of that free food at the banquet! Argh!

Heh heh! I'm not really all that unhappy. Because see, on the other hand...my Disaster Relief unit is on standby and may be mobilized and if so, I'll be available to respond. (Don't ask me how...I don't worry about that kind of thing too much. Jehovah Jireh, I say.) I'm already packed.

"Just talking out loud", as Steve says.

Trouble is that we're in Berkeley, not San Francisco...so getting over there is going to be tricky, timewise.

We'll see.

Now we're kind of stuck waiting for orders. I wouldn't want to drive here, but I wish we had a local in the party to guide us around a bit. We did go out and walk around a bit, but there wasn't much to see as nothing is open yet.

How wonderful!! I just heard them starting to let school out early in some school districts. We have had two fatality accidents so far this morning in LS; in neither cases were seat-belts were in use :-(

Well, go out walking and see if you can find any drum circles... :~)

It's really cold here... 14 degrees right now.
