The Hobbit Hole XXXII - Sweet is the sound of falling rain
The Freeper Hobbit Hole Blog ^ | December 1, 2006

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

Ours gym is open 24 hrs. from Sunday at 9 a.m. through Friday at 8 p.m. It's 7 a.m. - 8 p.m. on Saturday.

It must work for them because they have five locations with those hours.

That's nice! I don't know that there's anywhere locally that does that.

It would almost be nice if it was open past nine, just so it didn't feel rushed in the evening, but I doubt I'd be there that late anyhow. And five-thirty is early enough.

But being ABLE to go in the middle of the night is kind of a cool concept...

Do you go to a Y, or is it a private company? Our YMCA opens at 5:30am and closes at 11pm.

Found one other gym that's open 5 to 11, and they cost the same per month if you commit to a year ahead of time. Also let you do a trial membership, which might be worth trying.

On the downside, they're about three doors down from the coffee shop I like (really good mochas and pastries), so I could quite easily mess up any exercise benefits. ;-)

The problem with doing a year long membership is that during the summer months you may want to do more biking or jogging outside and less at the gym.

Gotta start getting back this week. The diet is now firmly established so it's time to add back in the exercise.

All five of our locations are next to a Starbucks.

It's a private company Suzi. Just (as far as I know) in the greater Richmond area.

This is true. Good point.

Hm...or instead of this whole gym business, I could buy the NordicTrack and dumbells someone is selling on Craigslist for a grand total of twenty bucks, move the bookshelf in my room to another wall and set it up there, and continue to be reclusive 'n that. And use the money I'd save on books and CDs - and bike gear come spring.

I can't wait until our basement is finished. We're going to put some exercise equipment down there. I am so much more likely to work out regularly if it doesn't involved getting ready, going to the gym, doing my thing with a hunred other people there, coming home, cleaning up... even with the gym only a mile away it's a pain.

Put the machine where you can see the tv, turn on a dvd with subtitles in case the dialog gets too quiet, and work out. Or music, audiobooks, whatever... that's what I'd do anyway.

...or just pick up a shovel and dig a few beds.

Morning! ~sip~

I still have a library card for Fort Collins, and they have that downloadable audiobook service. So I could do that. So could you, for that matter - and use an iPod or something. Selection isn't wonderful, but it's free!

I don't have a lot of room for a machine, but I can shuffle things around and make it work...

Guess I'll at least message that person. Sounds like she's in the mode I was in when I was selling my house - getting ready to move and just trying to get the big stuff GONE.

And the NordicTrack was my favorite machine at the gym. Heh...started out that way because they were never being used, but as it turns out, they got me in shape faster than anything else I've ever used. Dunno if the home ones are nearly as good, but for twenty bucks, I don't know that I could go wrong.

It's too wet. That's what started this whole thing. ;-)

Besides...I can't dig beds here, remember? Nothin' but rock under the grass.

I do want better raised beds, though. Eventually.

Those are handy to have in a bedroom, because you can then hang your clean laundry, extra blankets and stuff on them. :~)

Well, the trainer is the same as half a month's membership. So get it, try for three weeks or so, and if it doesn't suit you, go join a gym and you haven't lost any money, right?

Heh...and there's that, too.

Hopefully I do better than that, if'n I get it. Like I said, I loved the one at the gym. And I was the only one who did, I think. Unlike the other equipment, I never had to wait to use it.

Yep...and I kinda doubt I wouldn't be able to get twenty bucks for it again if I really didn't want it.

But you can't accomplish as much with it...

Seriously, although I'd *like* it if doing stuff around the house was enough exercise, it just isn't...and there isn't anywhere to walk here. Only the big road, and in the dark, that's not a good idea either.
