The Hobbit Hole XXXII - Sweet is the sound of falling rain
The Freeper Hobbit Hole Blog ^ | December 1, 2006

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

I don't know... haven't heard. Maybe some of the rivers that always flood.

We had a really odd weather day yesterday; it was sunny and 68! SirKit and Joseph did some work outside, and I filled boxes with stuff to take to the Thrift Store this week. Then we watched movies until the wee hours waiting for Clare and David to get back home from visiting Paul. Today is sunny, but won't get past fifty, then the rain starts tonight.

Clare and David have been disappointed that we haven't had an appreciable snow since they've been home for Christmas, but we're supposed to have some snow showers a couple of times this week.

I remember having some winters like this; the January thaw wasn't really a thaw because it had never frozen! Those years we always got socked in Feb. and March, though, so I'm sure it's coming!

Now I gotta gets ME some coffee!

Maybe it's been an unusual year everywhere, whatever usually happens, we get the opposite :~)

It's been pretty warm here too. By now we should be getting really cold at night and complaining about frozen hoses and packing hot water out from the house to thaw water troughs. We've only had a couple dustings of snow so far and nights in the upper forties and fifties have been more common.

And the wind. I have had enough wind.

Yeah, the wind must be scary, especially since the ground is saturated from all that rain!

I have a leak in my bathroom. There are old water stains there, so it must just be that once in a great while, something up there starts getting filled faster than it can drain. I'm just putting a bucket there. It's only a slow drip...and I don't own this place. ;-) I'm just gonna keep repeating that...

Getting ready to head off to church.

It'd be worth a look to see if there's something that's plugged up, when you get back. Or tell the landlord.

OK. I'm guessing it may well be done dripping by then, but we'll see.

Yah. I have it set to a lower bandwidth priority, but it's still using about 400Kb. I'll fiddle with the settings a bit and see if I can turn it down some more.

I usually schedule downloads to run in the middle of the night for this reason. :)

Those look great :~) Can you get the dirt delivered, or do you have a buddy with a truck?

Heh..I've been doing it the hard way: one 40 lb bag at a time. Plus leaves and compost, of course. And I'm planning on digging at least 6 inches down after the grass dies.

...And I'll get in some weight lifting. :)

I suppose I should rake up some leaves for it sometime today.

We got a sheet of sheetrock up on the basement ceiling. And vaccuumed. That is the extent of my productivity today. As soon as lunch is ready it'll be goofing off time.

I've got some collards on the stove right now to go with muh pork chop here in a little bit. Then the leaves, then the game. Meanwhile I'm watching vintage Dr. Who...Doctor Number 3.

Heh, we're fixing to start taking sheetrock down! We're opening up the wall in the kitchen to get to the plumbing for the upstairs bathrooms and laundry. SirKit is going to replace the copper pipes with PEX tubing, and at the same time, add the plumbing for the new bathroom we're going to create up on the third floor in the attic storage room.

We had the builder finish the larger third floor space when the house was being built, for SirKit to use as an office. Now we're turning that into a 'teen suite', or if the new owners prefer, a master suite. That bathroom will be larger than the one we have in the Master BR now, simply because there's more floor space up there! It would make a great place for a couple of teenagers, though, especially since the majority of the room is NOT over the Master BR, LOL!

Doctor Number 3

Was that Tom Baker? He was my favorite Doctor Who. John Pertwee was my second favorite.
