The Hobbit Hole XXXII - Sweet is the sound of falling rain
The Freeper Hobbit Hole Blog ^ | December 1, 2006

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

I'm really wishing I could afford a place of my own here. Not that I have a landlord who's intrusive or anything...heh. He still hasn't been in here.

But I suppose sooner or later I'll look for a place of my own, depending on how work goes and all.

Gandalf's "far green shore" or "what we do with the time that's given us" would work.

I know the first was in the ROTK movie, and the second one was in FOTR, iirc. But I also know that neither speech occured in the books where they were placed in the movies... and I know it's been discussed before on the thread, but I can't now find either the quotes in the books or the discussion on the threads.

Can anyone post the quotes from the movies, or know where to find them in the books?

Oops...sorry Bear! Glad you found them OK anyway!

I used to have the whole trilogy in Word format, but I think it got lost in a computer move somewhere along the way.

There are just so many possibilities for us, if we want to re-hab a house. So many were flooded, and have been gutted, and they're selling for pretty good prices, except the one I'd love. That one is a ranch with 4BR and 2 1/2 baths, and sits on a half acre of land overlooking a wide bayou. Of course, the bayou was the problem, because the house took 18" of water during Katrina. They're STILL asking $395K for it! It has been on the market since just after the storm in the fall of 2005, so by the time we get there, if it's still available, they may be more negotiable. Here's a link to it. Click Here to view Property

I'd love to raise the whole thing about 3 feet off the ground, to get it above any rising water, and do some updating. It could be a gorgeous place; the rest of the neighborhood is nice, but many of those homes took water, too. We could even put a second story on it, if we wanted to enlarge it. It certainly wouldn't be overimproving for the neighborhood!

I still do, but I didn't know what to search for! But, I managed to Google Gandalf's talk with Pippin, and then was able to find it in the books.

The words Gandalf used were actually taken from the description of what Frodo saw as they sailed into the west after leaving the Grey Havens at the end of ROTK(book).

I dunno, I've been looking through my Word copy of the books, but haven't really found anything suitable to use, imho.

I couldn't think of anything quite appropriate, either. Not for this situation. Maybe it shouldn't have a quote, just a "we're praying for you" message.

How about this:

With our deepest gratitude for his service given,

Nicely stated. I think anything more would start sounding pompous or hokey.

That's very simple and clear. I think that conveys the right message.

Sounds great. We've been out of the loop...how can we still contribute?

We've been trying to get G'nad's hand taken care of. About a week after surgery, he broke the finger that they did the nerve repair on. We went to have his cast taken off a couple days ago and they x-rayed it again...long story short, he's having surgery this afternoon to straighten it out (probably put a pin in it). He's in a bit of pain constantly, which he downplays. I did talk him into taking tomorrow off to though...so there is that.

Thanks again Rose for heading this up!
