The Hobbit Hole XXXII - Sweet is the sound of falling rain
The Freeper Hobbit Hole Blog ^ | December 1, 2006

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

Now for the Day After sales, right? :-)

Aaaagggghhhh!!!

Got coffee going and doing some surfing here. Guess I'll be scraping glue off the walls today. But I can't put shopping off too long...

Something like that, yeah. ;-)

Or I could just put the dog food bin against that wall. Heh...I'm cheap.

But they come in different colors so you can coordinate with your decor. :)

Unfortunately, a big ol' ugly Rubbermaid container, with maybe an old blanket folded on top...fits much better with my decor than any plush window seat. ;-)

(Sorry, kitties!)

Guess this coming weekend I'll scope out that back area and see if there's a good place for the post! I should get pictures of it, too.

That is the road side of the house, though. Wonder if that'd keep birds from bothering.

The sparrows would probably come. Nothing much fazes them! You could plant bushes near the property line on that side to provide more bird-friendly habitat and screen the feeder a bit from the traffic.

End of the year....the seed catalogs will be coming any day now.

I had the radio in my coat pocket and I *still* forgot to give it back last night. Oops! I'll run it over this evening, if that's OK.

I don't see any squelch knob. My old shortwave had one...but this doesn't seem to. Maybe in the menu somewhere instead of just being a knob, but I didn't hunt.

I turned it off after I left the beach house so it wouldn't chirp anymore...;-)

We'll help get it in the ground when you want too... Do you have to work today? We have a birdseed feeder or two you can have, the ones that used to hang under the squirrel feeder. Our birds have such easy access to the squirrel platforms, they didn't need them and we took them down.

That old blanket ties the whole room together... ;~)

I work today...and it's wet. So far it's just supposed to be mostly cloudy on Saturday, so that may work! I want to finally get around to doing some pulling up of dead stuff and clearing so I can figure out where to put that. I'm afraid my gardening is as inconsistent as the rest of my hobbies...

I suppose it'd be easier to get to in the front, but I don't have a nice big window like that or a place where there are trees nearby like there are in the back. Also I keep thinking it'd be bad to put it in back on account of once the snow starts I'll have to keep the path shoveled...but then I realize that isn't going to be an issue... Used to months of staying snow!

You can put it wherever you want... I'd put it where you're likely to see it the most... I think the fun of birdfeeders is watching the birds come :~)

My family (bless 'em all) decided to spread Christmas over several days. Mom came out to visit and based operations out of my house. Saturday we went down to my brothers for a Toddler Christmas + Birthday extravaganzzzzzza. Us adults, despite promising up and down to keep Christmas simple and small, wore those kids out opening presents. The little guys had to take a nap before they could finish unwrapping them all. teeheehee. Fortunately its a family full of brainiacs so all the toys were brainiac in nature. Can't help but approve of all that.

And den...

We came home and cleaned and cooked and went to church on Sunday. And den Big'ol's parents changed all of there plans around and decided to go to church on Monday morning instead of Sunday which got everyone's schedule all akimbo.

And den ... The Maryland and Connecticut family descended on our house Christmas afternoon for fun and merriment. I stuffed them full of cookies and fudge and a fabulous habanero-based chip dip I got in NM last time out. We had a nice ham dinner with lots of mushy vegetables for my FIL. He announced at Thanksgiving that I didn't "cook" the veggies I brought. His definition of "cooked" means that it resembles mashed potatoes. I believe cooking green beans or carrots to that point is a crime against humanity and a sin against All Creation.

And den...

Woke up in the wee dark hours of the morning to get Mom on her plane home. Stopped off at Tarzhay on the way back to pick up a party game for this evening because the Virginia family is coming to visit. I got to Tarzhay five minutes before seven and was amazed to see a line forming in front of the door. Turns out all of the Tarzhay Christmas accoutrements were on a 50% sale today. Tarzhay must not have gotten the message to do their after-Christmas sales before Christmas like every other store on the planet. I picked up a couple boxes of ornaments for next year's tree... but only because the ornament aisle was right on the other side of the game aisle. :) Those crazy women had hauled their yawning daughters and husbands out of bed to guard two and three carts that got fuller and fuller with every trip by the Moms into the fray. Arm fulls of *stuff*. It was crazy. Some of the ladies were throwing elbows in the aisle. Made me and my frazzled nerves feel quite serene in comparison.

And den...

I came home to grab a quick nap before doing the upstairs cleaning. A couple of the Virginia relatives haven't seen the house yet so my strategy of closing the upstairs doors won't hold today. Oh well, it will not hurt me in the least to tidy up up there. While I was sleeping, Mom called from the airport. Her flight's been delayed until about noon. She has food and water and two good books. So she'll be ok. So much for her good "travel Karma".

Yesterday morning, after presents and before the meal, Spiderboy announced, "This is the best Christmas EVER!"

He also was very impressed by Santa - who brought new sparring gear (a size larger and all black). I am not sure what exactly made it the "best" Christmas, but it is definitely one he will remember for some time.

He sure is getting big!

Glad he enjoyed Christmas. Kids having fun makes the whole (secular-side of things) ordeal worthwhile in my eyes.

An impressive .22 for a first rifle. Any plans for optics?

Indeed. I really like the wide forestock. As far as optics, I want to make sure he knows how to use open sights first.

No, I wasn't. Cool site.

Nice Rifle he has there, you'll have many hours of fun to come to that one.

This is one of many reasons I miss living in the country. Plinking in the front yard.

I've always been a fan of receiver sights, rather than open sights on the barrel. They're just far more shooter-friendly, even for young eyes.

Glad to hear the Stormhands Christmas celebration was successful. We were up until after 4am on Christmas morning. Got home from the after Mass party about 2:30, then did St. Nick, so our larger Christmas Day celebrations didn't start until 1pm when we hauled the kids out of bed to open gifts. It was low key this year, but the kids loved their gifts, and they got me some cool stuff, too! We were up late again last night/this morning, watching TV and chatting. I left them at 4am just beginning Close Encounters. Clare and Joseph realized that they hadn't seen it in a long time, and that they'd likely understand it much better now that they're older.
Am fixing to get my second cup of coffee and have some breakfast.

So what did St. Nick end up bringing Luke and Jr.?
