The Hobbit Hole XXXII - Sweet is the sound of falling rain
The Freeper Hobbit Hole Blog ^ | December 1, 2006

Posted on 12/01/2006 12:55:15 PM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

Well, nothing that is really "essential" but somehow he and his mom thought it was...

They include...class ring...senior portraits...announcements...cap and gown rental...the parents page in the yearbook...

All of which I'm sure set my parents back no more than $200 for the whole year.

We went with the minimum for the yearbook thing. There are actually parents who spend $800 for a full color page. IMHO they're idiots.

As for the senior portraits, I let the Mrs. handle the arrangements for those. Let's just say I shouldn't have.

Class ring? I didn't realize they did those for high schools... guess that makes sense. We sent announcements when I graduated but they were cheap 'fill in the blank' sorts. Actually I take that back, it was when I graduated community college, but I was 18 so same basic thing. That was the spring before the Hobbit Hole.

Senior portrait? Is that different than the usual school picture? At least the cap and gown rental I can understand though I'm sure it's too expensive.

And - $800?! That's... inconcievable.

Yeah, Seniors have to get their own portrait photo taken and turned into the yearbook.

Wife thought it would be good to go to a top of the line photographer. We ~did~ get some really cool pictures. But it was bit excessive.

And, he actually got the ring his junior year.

Eeep.

Our house will be sitting cold and empty. If you care to spend Christmas alone in Iowa, we can arrange to leave a key for you. The cats would like company.

It hasn't gotten that cold here yet... it's about 30 degrees out there right now and we haven't had any snow at all.

Rosie, if you don't get a better offer from yerbrother, you know you would be welcome at The beach house! Only thing is we'd probably leave all the dogs home, it's just too much chaos, and we'll be leaving at 0:dark:30 Christmas morning to arrive up there as close to daybreak as we can. :~)

I've got a punkin bread in the oven and I'm waiting for Steve to come home.

My house looks like a BOMB hit it...I'm not kidding.

I got my brother a present in the mail.
...His wife (of 1 year)came in at Thanksgiving and told him she wanted him out. He had sold his house when they got married and taken the money to re-decorate and remodel her house. Now he's in an apartment. Grrr...Anyway, I got him Fact or Crap to play with his kids. Hopefully it'll make him laugh. He's a freeper, so that's why this is white.

Apparently this is a well-known tip, but I didn't know it!

Wedding cake decorators do that all the time!

My house looked like a bomb hit it this morning, but now, it's almost as clean as it gets for company! One of my biggest irritations when then power was out was clutter. No place to set things, fumbling around trying to find things, I love a tidy camp :~)

I think your brother will like the present :~) Sounds like fun :~)

We just got back from town, went to the hardware store to get stuff. There's a storm with wind coming in tonight, hopefully not too bad, but if the power goes out again, we're ready :~)

Here's some pics :~) We have improved our emergency water supply.. raised it up a little to get enough gravity to more easily fill the horse buckets outside with the hose. We've also added another barrel that was extra at the beach house, for more potable water we can get at with a siphon. We need to have a lot of water, we used about half the barrel in this last outage, just keeping horses watered, toilet flushed, and drinking and washing water.

And some cute doggie pics... First, I think we found the perfect cover for Gidget's chair, don't you think? :~)

And tell me if this isn't the cutest most pathetic sight. Homer's been licking a bare spot on his back, right on his spine. We switched dog food recently, and have now switched back, thinking it might be a food allergy. It was getting better, but during the storm and aftermath, he went after it again, from stress. So I put this t-shirt on him, cut a hole for his tail so it stays put, cut the front out of it so he can pee, and he can't get to it now. I think it's really cute on him :~)
