Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!
O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.
O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.
O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!
Sorry Corin! We have to locate the camera and we've both been sick... last night we went to bed before 9 and it was just to sleep, thank you. Ugh... we didn't even get the gifts for Talon's brother's family ready to mail...
Hmmm....beans on a spit?
tell me about it.
I was thinkin' all I had was a screwdriver and that would be too messy. And I wasn't too inclined to do the whole finger in the socket thing.
Then there's the part about getting my lifeless body out of ~the attic~ with no stair access...
'zat whatcher callin' it now? ;-)
not to worry. y'all just get better...
GAK!
Hillary Clinton on TheTodayShow.
Says she'll decide after the first of the year. Riiiiiiggghhhttt...
They are really awesome ornaments and I do want to get pictures (found the camera in the hustle and bustle this morning.) My grandparents stopped by for an hour or so yesterday on their way up to visit my great-grandfather. I saw my grandmother take a look at the tree and I'm sure she saw the ornaments but she didn't ask. Mwahaha.
Ugh. So I got the presents for Talon's brother's family all wrapped. I have to mail them at lunch. Do you know how hard it is to wrap pink baseball gloves at 6 am? I just hope I spelled all the names right.
They could use an extension ladder.
Mornin' folkses...

Well... I'm back in Bellevue. Drove up last night. I had called my number, and the answering machine kicked on so I figured I had power back, which was true. I'd done this test yesterday late morning, and it ~didn't~ pick up.
The house here weathered the storm just fine. It's fully operational now. Cable is even back up.

But I drove through parts of Bellevue last night that ~still~ are dark. Mercer Island is still dark (that's the *really* high-rent district).
Power is on at the office, but apparently there's no heat. Not sure what's up with that.
See, it's usually the opposite for us. We're not worried about heat, we're worried about air conditioning and refrigeration.
I think the worst it got for us winter-wize was an ice storm in 2000. We lost power before the Super Bowl and didn't get it back on until some time on Tuesday.
Luke was born 2 wks. later.

Dang! Reached muh coffee limit for the day and I want MORE!
No kidding. I have been here three hours and am still not awake.
Amazing saga, you guys!!
I'm so glad you are all right...the generator was a blessing!
I imagine it's a very satisfying feeling to know that in a time of disaster, you can at least hold your own, including pets and even take care of your neighbor! I'm impressed!
Wow.
This is definitely the biggest storm I can remember. Especially in terms of impact. We've had worse winds and more impressive weather, but the effects of this one basically taking out the whole infrastructure... roads closed to downed trees, the thousands of breaks in the power grid, no stores, no *gas*, phones, cable, Internet access... this is the biggest mess Washington has had in my memory.
Rosie-- you said something about forgetting to take enough cash and the card readers didn't work... that's something I'm taking away from this experience too. I don't tend to carry much cash. I do almost everything just with a debit card.
But even so, I keep a hundred folded up in my wallet for an emergency. I learned a hundred dollar bill may as well be monopoly money if you try to use it at the *one* convenience store that's open. The clerk will just blink at you and insist on not depleting their till of smaller bills making change. Understandable.
So... lesson is to keep a cash reserve in a box at home that includes enough small bills to actually be useful.
We had done the extra cash thing when we created a bug-out box after 9/11. Being so close to Boston, you just never know, and we could easily head West pretty quickly, if we needed to.
"Do we just have a menorah for decorative purposes?"
His social studies class has done "holidays around the world." So far I know they've done St. Nicholas Day, St. Lucia Day, Hannukah...
And, the school is definitely not afraid to say "Christmas."
So, there's that.
I dreamed about this very issue last night! Maybe the Lord is trying to tell me something! (Or maybe the common sense He gave me is just kicking in...)
I also felt the need to make sure my personal info is available to someone in the Hole. I believe g'nad has my home phone number and OT, don't you have my cell phone number?
I don't think I have the new one. I have the number of the phone you got rid of.
Mrs. has asked me several times how to notify you guys if something were to happen to me.
I haven't told her just in case she's planning something if you get muh drift.
I figger y'all will know I'm dead if I go more than 24-48 hrs. without posting...
