What's the longest you've gone without sleep?
Posted on 11/28/2006 12:47:33 PM PST by pieceofthepuzzle
This is a curiosity-based vanity. My impression is that the average FReeper works very hard. Probably the most common reason people deprive themselves of sleep is to get work done. I've heard some amazing stories of how little sleep soldiers have gotten in the midst of combat. What's your story?
Incidentally, the longest I've ever gone without sleep was about 85 hours, with the help of a ton of coffee, Diet Coke, and Reeses Peanut Butter Cups.

About 6am one day until about 10pm the following day, roughly 40 hours. I did it for work. I would never do it again.

85? Was that for work? Were you in the military on deployment?
Longest for me was maybe about 48 hours, and I'll not do that again.

100 hours during Gulf War I for me.
Now I have trouble staying up beyond about 36 hours without getting seriously stupid.

Without hurling??!!
I knew some hippies who were on strict macrobiotic diets. Brown bread and rice. They would stay up for as long as they could trying to achieve "free" hallucinations. One guy said he got there after 3 whole days and nights being awake.

I have no idea. I'm usually too drunk to remember how long I've been up.

I can go a little over two days before I start hallucinating (dreaming) when I blink too long. Haven't tried it for almost ten years though I could probably go a little longer.

Recently, with one of my children sick and in hospital after surgery, I reckon I was awake for 40 hours before I got a cat nap. It took me a good week to recover.
As you can see I am still drained with this major run-on sentence.

Likewise. I was stuck working the first 3 days of a work stoppage by the Teamsters. I worked 2 days straight, about 46 hours. I wonder why I still hate unions.
