Heck, we can take Mark Twain's word for it in Innocents Abroad.

It seems to me that all the races and colors and tongues of the earth must be represented among the fourteen thousand souls that dwell in Jerusalem. Rags, wretchedness,poverty and dirt, those signs and symbols that indicate the presence of Moslem rule more surely than the crescent-flag itself, abound.

Innocents Abroad gives a very good understanding of Islam, in that Twain describes people who seemed little changed from the ancient past, and what he describes in 1867 appears little changed from now. Mark Twain would have been able to tell us that occupying Iraq would be unlikely to produce a stable and benign Government.

still we quote Churchill, and look at his words today 2010 in disbelief “that we had been warned” and we paid no attention to Churchill, our later Governments got all caught up in the “melting pot” mentality of drug confused hippies of the 1960s and their rise to political persuasion as they aged, soon that generation will be gone and Obama is one. We should ask the next to ignore them and search for their answers and direction from previous champions of democracy..

The effects are apparent in many countries. Improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live.

A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement; the next of its dignity and sanctity.
