In this world of pain, confusion and question, today we give pause. We dont today focus on the half empty cup but rather CHOSE to look at the joy of life, the blessings of life and the friendships of life.
Today we give thanks to God for his gift of life & blessings in this troubled world.
We give thanks to friends and family for the gifts of friendship and joy they share with us
Today is day ONE of the LONG 4-day Thanksgiving Weekend here at the Singles Thread.
We are thankful that Jim & John Robinson have given us a cozy cyber room in the forum for us to chat.
Our singles family is diverse & NOT without internal problems. But we are doing our best to be here for our friends of all ages & all walks of life. If you are single or a friend of any of us, you are most welcome to drop in & chat & share. The doors will be open all weekend to visit.
May our God keep all in His protective love.
Whether with a group or alone, whether at home or traveling , whether content or troubled, may TODAY be a day of peace & of reflection of the blessings we do have.
Feel free to share your greetings, graphics, joys, pains. This is a thread of openness & friendship & sharing.
I am grateful for many things this day..my God, my family, my friends, but profoundly grateful I was born in America. I am thankful to my president for his leadership and the fine example in marriage he provides. I am thankful for the troops who are serving and far from the homes & families that today have an empty seat. I love my country
Dolly.
Give Thanks Music Here
Give thanks with a grateful heart Give thanks to the Holy One Give thanks because He's given Jesus Christ, His Son
(Repeat twice)
And now, Let the weak say "I am strong" Let the poor say "I am rich" Because of what the Lord has done for us
(Repeat twice)
Give thanks !
"Enter His gates with thanksgiving, and His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him and praise His name. For the LORD is good and His love endures forever; His faithfulness continues through all generations." (Psalm 100:4-5)
"I do not think of all the misery, but of the glory that remains. Go outside into the fields, nature and the sun, go out and seek happiness in yourself and in God. Think of the beauty that again and again discharges itself within and without you and be happy. Anne Frank
"Let us remember that, as much has been given us, much will be expected from us, and that true homage comes from the heart as well as from the lips, and shows itself in deeds."1901 Theodore Roosevelt
"As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them." John Fitzgerald Kennedy
"It is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor." George Washington October 3, 1789 in his first Presidential Proclamation.

I used to live near Toledo ('95-'01), and have been living in progressively colder regions since. Upper Peninsula of MI, Alberta, Canada, and now Alaska.
A friend of mine works on the N. Slope (Arctic), and he says its been in the teens and 20's there lately.
Fairbanks and the interior, which is generally colder than the Northern regions, has been -35 to -40 lately.
The coldest I've ever felt was my first winter in AB. I think it was -40 something, and about -65 with a wind chill. Made for a nice walk to school!

LOL, I'm an odd-ball, I'd rather be frost bitten than sun burnt!
I don't think I'd be able to find a chunk of steel large enough to build an ice breaker for my kayak.
I'm tentatively scheduled to start work on Dec 11. I'm flying down, late Tues night, to visit family for a week before I start working.

This gal walked through my yard a few days ago. She was on my side of the gate (at bottom of photo) when I first saw her, but couldn't get my camera in time.

We've got a little on the ground here, more in the mountains but I don't think there has been much new accumulation up high.
Its almost too cold for it to snow much.

Thats a cow moose, the pic is kind of deceiving next to the fence though, but that back fence is pretty tall. She was pretty good-sized, but I'd say she was small compared to some other cows I've seen.
Rut season for moose is over, usually they'd rut from late August to the end of Sept.
I would NOT want to hit a moose. Your bumper would take out their limbs (pun intended!) and that Torso comes through your windshield. You have to be careful if there is a calf around too. Never get between a cow and her calf, they can get VERY protective and they have killed people. If you have dogs you have to watch for them too, it wouldn't take much for a dog to get trampled.
The roads get very glazed here in the winter, so you have to keep your eyes out. My roommate saw someone hit a calf moose two days ago. He said they were able to slow down, and basically bumped it, and it walked away. There are signs on the highways, that indicate how many moose have been killed on each stretch of road to date.

I like warm weather too, but over 80-85ish is HOT to me! I really don't care for humidity either. Summers here are supposed to be awesome, but buggy!
I'm looking forward to skiing, and some friends have been out in the back country. I'll be out after I start working and getting a paycheck. I'm going to get some new skis, avi courses, and back country gear before I start backcountry skiing (something I've wanted to get into for ages).
Some parts of Alyeska resort are open, but I don't think its too good yet.

oh that is painful. I have had lower back pain for 30+ years.. chiropractor helps. Another FReeper today recommended something called PROLOTHERAPY - he swears by it. here is the info (hope the hot links "work")

This Week's Articles Tail Bone Pain Blog Chronic burning pain in the tailbone area. Can Prolotherapy help?
Is It Sports Hernia? A patient brought his son, highly touted baseball prospect, into the office. His baseball career was abruptly halted when chronic groin pain occurred. He was told it was a hernia, so he followed the doctor's advice and had surgery for it. That didn't help. They next told him it was caused by an iliopsoas muscle strain. So he worked with various therapies to relieve the muscle strain. Those did not help either. His back was finally x-rayed, where they found some degenerative disc changes. At this time, the team doctor began talking surgery.
Creating Inflammation with Prolotherapy We already have inflammation that is causing chronic pain, why do we want to inflame it some more (with Prolotherapy)? Most of these areas of chronic pain have a constant level of low level inflammation. The ligaments and tendons in these areas, because they have a very small blood supply going to them, never heal properly. These ligaments and tendons, which are made of collagen, need to be stimulated to heal and what we do is give them a little kick start (with Prolotherapy) so the inflammation we create doesnt last very long but it raises it up to a threshold, it starts the healing process, it brings cells called fibroblasts to the area and those cells produce collagen. Without that little kick start, people stay in a smoldering type of pain and low level inflammation. |

I don't mind it hot if I am in /near water..preferably the ocean.. but lakes & streams are okay & being ON the water the best.. kayak, tubing, etc.
is the skiing you described the same as cross country skiing?
I do that, probably in a less intense fashion than you describe. For me (and I normally go w/ friend John & our 4 dogs), it is a 4 -6 hour outing in remote, rolling forests...
We are exhausted & so are the dogs. Some years there is good snow for frequent outings, other years, well, just minimal & lucky to get out once or twice.
