Idiots stampeding for playstation 3
;D! Yeah, life IS short!
But heck, I never use the big screen and home theatre I bought at the height of popularity 7 years ago. I'm holding out a little longer.
Nintendo will be making that after-purchase money, plus they make a profit on every Wii sold. Sony and Microsoft have huge cash resources from other venues, and can therefore afford to have a business model based on a loss leader (and we're talking hundreds of millions of dollars in loss leader here). The only cash cow Nintendo has right now is the DS.
Completely, totally wrong.
What you get for your 400K units, is 400 thousand salespersons, dude. How many people who plunked down all this money are going to say negative things about their purchase? In fact, no matter how nice the units, because nobody wants to say they were stupid, they will tell everyone who listens that these things are fantastic, and that you suck if you dont have one too.
Sony will have 2-3 million of these things ready be summer and they will sell every single one of them, because remember, if you dont have one, it means your wife is ugly and your kids are stupid. Freepers need business courses.
I'm still playing Medal of Honor Allied Asault. :)
That's the hard part, you have to have the money in the bank to survive losing money on half a million sales so you can make it back on the secondary sales downstream. But if you can survive it's great, they're certainly going to move more product at $600 than they would at $1000 and each additional until sold is more games to be made and bought for it later.
Heh. Sounds like a plan. We always needmore moolah. :)
You sir, are the man. :D
According to other articles, they have promised 1 million by Christmas.
good point
bugs won't stop the stampede.
From three years ago:
Ellzey says she and her sister Patti Vanlester shop at Walmart all the time. They know when a sale is on because the crowds are huge, which is why they got to the store at 3:30 a.m. this morning. They wanted to get the 6 a.m. specials. A DVD/VCR player for $29.87.
"It was gift for my mother. Someone got her a bunch of nice DVD's, she was really wanting one bad."
When the store finally opened, shoppers grabbed for the item. People started fighting for the DVD player and pushed Vanlester to the ground.

omfg Sony is losing roughly 120 million on the supposed 400k units it has produced so far. And like it says this is before R&D, and marketing costs.
I believe that was a lawsuit over that. I know there are people who make it a career to slip on something or make a box fall on their head at Wal-Mart and then sue. But in this case Wal-Mart didn't provide proper security for its customers and is IMHO liable.
I know that for the Wii release they will be handing them out in the back, away from the general shopping floor, where it's easier to control things.
Who cares? I use the XBox 360. Let the buyer beware.
Like I said, the PS3 was rushed to release. Sony wanted it early this year but it wasn't ready, but they couldn't miss selling during the Christmas season even if it still isn't ready.
