Let's see, cringe...aaah, Roget's International Thesaurus of 1911-1939, "cringe" yield or bend, bend obsequiously to, truckle, to, kowtow, yield under humiliating circumstances, humble oneself, eat crow, swallow the leek, kiss the rod, grin and bear it, make the best of it, submission, draw in ones horns, acknowledge defeat, make a virtue of necessity, to name a few... yes "cringe" is the appropriate word in this story.... the lucky teen has a tale to tell..
