Does the Darwin Award HAVE to be for people who've removed themselves from the gene pool by death? It doesn't count for other ways?

If one is include the other ways, then all celibate clergy are darwinoids. Has to be the terminal removal by doing something outstandingly idiotic.

no, he is not eligible for a Darwin award, having survived his foray into stupidity. However, he does qualify for an honorable mention!

One CAN get a darwin award for sterilizing him/herself. There have been Darwins for people who are alive but sterile. The criteria are:
removal from the gene pool (whether by death or sterilization)
removal from gene pool must be self-inflicted
one must be sane and of mature age
the incident must involve an exceptional error of judgement
and it must be true
So this fellow probably in fact is only an honorable mention, as he still has one testicle with which to procreate.

mmm I forgot -- the test for sterility is the desert island test- if the person is marooned on a desert island after their misadventure with a fertile member of the opposite test and is unable to reproduce, then they are eligible for the award. (so a chaste person such as a priest is not eligible, because he technically could reproduce in said situation.)

Does the Darwin Award HAVE to be for people who've removed themselves from the gene pool by death? It at least deserves a Darwin Award "Horse shoes and hand grenades" Special Recognition Certificate.
