Christian news and commentary at: sacredscoop.com ...
It's kind of like what you see when someone walks into an airplane propeller.
Not sure any of those guys ever lived in North Carolina ~ more like Northern Alabama, Eastern Tennessee, Eastern Kentucky, West Virginia.
Geez, I learn new things everyday. I think the church up in the mountains I saw on a TV show was called Church of Jesus Christ with Signs Following. It may have been in Tenn, I can't remember. I think the Preachers wife locked him in the woodshed with the snakes or something .
cuz he wuz a cheatin with the local shanty tramp
I can see that you are unable to back up what you've asserted is true in this thread.
Uh... what translation is THIS from?
"He told them", the apostles And these signs will accompany be witnessed by those who believe: In my name they, the apostles will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well."
--Mark 16:15-18
A few years ago, a woman accidently walked backward into a plane's prop.
It was a real disassedher!
No ma'am- I've backed it up plenty- & I see you don't care to hear what those commentators have to say- Again- show me the true miracles taking place today on command- Can't? No, didn't think so. As for the 'healings' How is it that that they don't heal everyone? Ah- once again, it is 'because the person didn't beleive' Which is exactyl contrary to God's word. But, that's just a distration, right? Look- you beleive what ya want- it's obvious this issue riles you- we'll avoid anymore- I've already laid out why there are no more miracles on demand by appointed apostles- the fact is that's the truth. You've yet to show anyone who can heal, and you've yet to address th3e question of why only certain 'gifts' survived while the obvious fact is that the miracles gift is no longer around, nor is the drinking poiso9n or handling snakes a viable gift any more because peopel DO die- God didn't say we had to muster up a certain amouint of faith in Him in order to do these htings- He simply said they needed to beleive in Him- which a saved person already does- condition met- The arly beleivers could immediately drink the poisons, immediately survive snake bites, could immediately do miracles- They didn't need to 'work their way up' by building up tolorances as these modern day snake handlers do. I want ot also point out that when bitten, they DO become quite sick and need emergency medical treatments and lose flesh and fingers due to bites- Don't see that mentioned i nthe bible-
Anyway- bleeive if ya want- I'm done- it's obvious you want to beleive- so have at it.
they do.
They do as in "they do drink poison"? If so, how does that work out for them? (I think I know...)
We're talking about the apostles raising the dead, healing incurable diseases, restoring body parts etc- TRUE miracles- these things are NOT being done today because we are in the church age and not the early miracle confirmation age- God has given us all the proofs necessary for salvation now.
First, where is your Biblical confirmation that these things have ended? Second, are you not aware of miracles well after the First Century, such as Smith Wigglesworth raising people from the dead? One source I've seen credits him with raising 23 people, and raising his wife more than once.
Yeah, but you have to have a permit for your Chevy, don't you?
Speak for yourself, please.
Where is your biblical backup for miracles going away?
No, you haven't. The only thing you have done so far to "back up" your asserion is claim that certain people agree with you. That's not evidence. Cite a source. Cite a verse in the Bible that says miracles will go away, or go to one of the commentaries and cite what the commentary says so that we can see why verses that say all believers will do what Jesus did actually say all believers will do what Jesus did until a certain time limit runs out.
Also, I think it's very disingenuous of you to keep pretending that Elsie is defending the practice of snake handling in church services. She is saying that miracles still happen and NOWHERE has she said that these snake handlers would be protected or that they have successfully avoided being bitten. You should apologize to the lady for continuing to mischaracterize her views.
See post 94. Hope you don't mind me jumping in.
Excellent work, your refutation is better than mine. I would like to point out, however, that Paul is an Apostle. What's strange is that smug seems to think that if Luke, who was with Paul, was bitten by that same snake, he would have died an agonizing death because he wasn't quite important enough.
And not that I expect anyone to take my word for it on the Internet, but when my wife's broken hand healed in a couple of days instead of several weeks, I thought of that as a miracle, even though they "don't happen anymore."
Yes I can Silver- The early Jews were VERy sign oriented & comming off a total works based salvation- Christ's death did away with the law- but as you well know- people steeped in a works based salvation (ie: took pride in their own 'goodness' as a means of saving them) would have a VERY hard time believing that simple faith in Christ could save them. It was necessary for the message in the early days to show the authenticity of Christ's word by doing miracles. When it became apparent that the Jews would not (for the most part) accept Christ's salvation, God no longer used the miracles as verification and left them to their own sins 'for a time' - the bible talks about htis time and also talks about the end times when the Jews will see the light so to speak. It all boils down to faith now- God's message was originally for the Jews- they for the most part rejected it (although MANY Jews in the early days were saved, did view the miracles, and beleived.)
Wigglesworth- where are the accoutns in papers of these miraculous raisings by Wigglesworth- Death cirtificates and medical reports that it happened? Voodoo practicioners put people into death like states, then the people rise up some time later- charlatans- Sorry, but again- there is noone around today raising people from the dead- these raisings would NOT go unnoticed or reported in medical journals I'm afraid- and yes I have made the case- again- there are no raisings or regenerations of limbs happening today- none- Wigglesorth himself suffered stones, his wife died, his daughter was deaf etc. even though he supposedlky tried healing htem- I'm sorry, but hte apostles weren't stymied by cases- they healed all who were brought to them & they didn't demand money & stagger around as though drunk & yell & use violence as the modern day suppsoed healers do- Again- beleive what you will- not arguing this further-
Also- if you're goign to argue my points at least be honest and don't say that I said things when I didn't- i NEVER said miracles don't happen today- they absolutely do- i DID say that there are NO people today doing Greater things than Jesus did like the disciples were able to in the new testament age. Does God answer prayer? Absolutely- are some things unnexplainable? Absolutely- IS God restoring limbs, organs etc out of nothing and without the aid of surgery like Christ and the apostles did? Nope- not yet, but He will again. Next time you run into a 'healer' present them with someone who is missing some legs, or arms, or hands or whatever & ask them to restore them just by commanding the limbs regenerate in the name of Jesus Christ- I'll bet you get thrown out of the auditorium. I never said healings don't happen in response to prayers- they do- I am saying that the age of 'greater things than Christ did' is no longer upon us and the evidence is exactly as I stated- a lack of miracle workers- TRUE miracle workers- When Jesus did miracles- there was NO doubt in ANYONE's minds that they were TRUE miracles- the supposed miracles performed by folks today are NEVER as indisputable & certainly do not involve Greater works than Christ did.
