Mitt
We've got Rudy Giuliani, but he's not so very conservative as we might like. But one thing about Rudy, his disdain for the MSM is iron-clad.
freepers will scream and yell, but there isn't time to develop a current "unknown" perfect conservative that everyone on FR wants, to emerge and be a national candidate in such a short time.
Tancredo
Duncen Hunter!
Duncan Hunter....with a Michael Steele as VP, maybe.
This will answer a lot of questions:

Why not Frist?
Well, the one-issue, anti-immigrant voters got their wish. They taught the GOP a lesson by kicking out some of the most conservative Senators (Allen, Santorum). So now we're stuck with McCain, Guliani, or Romney as our nominees in 2008.
Well done, folks!
The answer is that there're several dozen guys who could handle the task and the good news is that nobody has any sort of a lock on it. It'll be like an old style convention, first one anybody will have seen in decades.
There is NO ONE with the stature of Ronald Reagan anywhere on the horizon.
AD Reagan Conservative NO way not this generation maybe way down the future
I don't see President Reagan type to lead GOP in 2008
So for now Ronnie was da man still is as GOP guy
Look to the GOP governorships.
Bobby Jindal, from Louisiana?
Duncan Hunter or Tom Coburn
Mike Pence, if he'd sharpen up on illegal immigration and get his name out there.
I don't know. It's definitely going to be interesting to see what shakes out in the next two years. I know some may disagree with me here, but I personally like Rudy Giuliani. I would feel safe with him at the helm. I disagree with him on social issues, but I'm not a political purist. Politics is messy, and I don't expect a politician to agree with me on everything.
Some things I like about Rudy:
He's not afraid to make a stand. He will tell off a rat like Yasser Arafat or a Saudi Prince. I believe he would stand up to the Islamists.
He's steady in a crisis. I know watching him after 9/11 calmed me down. Giuliani didn't know 9/11 was coming, but you didn't hear him whining to the MSM about the federal response. He did what had to be done.
I think he's got the kind of mind that would work well as President--managerial and steady.
I think he would bring in/appoint people that didn't agree with on social issues. He campaigned for Santorum and others in the country that don't share his views on social issues.
We've got a lot of talent in the GOP. Jeb Bush is a good guy and has a similar steady, calming vibe as Guiliani. They were saying on TV the other day that people really love the guy in FL. Unfortunately, 2008 will probably not be his year because of the Bushed-out factor.
I don't know a whole lot about Romney to be able to comment on him one way or the other.
At one time I thought Rice might be a good potential contender but I'm not so sure now. She's made a couple of remarks about Israel that have cooled me some. Also, I think she's too close to Bush--the Bushed out factor again and I don't know if not being married would be considered a plus or a negative.
Personally I'm not a fan of John McCain but he's not all bad (Hillary is all bad) and I would vote for him if he's the nominee.
Anyway, none of our candidates are perfect, they are human after all, but we will have to pick the best one that can win. Maybe there is someone out there that no one is really thinking about that will emerge. How many people outside of Texas and political circles were thinking about George Bush in 1999?
Who are people thinking will be on the Dem lineup? I think Kerry will run again. He's such a pompous air head, he probably still thinks he has a shot.
